Man anyone read the story about the lady leaving her dogs to goto disney?:sad1: I cant believe she did that. Made my heart sad. I got my family trip coming up next year and i know im making sure our little beagle will be taking good care of while we are gone.

haven't read anything like that - please link.

You are saying she just left her dogs? no pet sitter, no kennel, no neighbor or relative coming to see about them?

I am taking my dog to DL with me next weekend

Tampay Bay 10 - Ruskin, Florida - A Hillsborough County woman has been arrested on animal cruelty charges, accused of leaving her three dogs to die in her backyard as she vacationed at Disney World.

Hillsborough Animal Services officials say 30-year-old Alicia Visscher of Ruskin left her three Dalmatians confined in the sun in her backyard without food and water.

Investigators were alerted to the situation by neighbors who heard the dogs incessantly crying and barking.

By the time rescuers got to the animals, one of the dogs, Alex, lay dying and had to be euthanized.

Visscher is charged with one count of felony animal cruelty and two counts of improper confinement of animals.

The two surviving Dalmatians, Freckles and Sam, will be put up for adoption.

I would like to see this woman trapped in a small space, in the sun, without food or water for at least three days. And maybe we could put Michael Vick in there with her.

What a monster!!! I hope they throw the book at her.

The hardest part about going on vacation is leaving my two pugs at the vet - I try to make up for it by bringing the lots of presents!! As much as I love Disney, I'm always ready to come home to my babies.

Thank you:love: Yea i hope they put the both of them in a cage with dogs who havent eat for weeks. I just dont see why she couldnt just put them at a dog kennel. It not like it alot of money. Why even have pets if your gone o do something like that?

My two little babies, Chinese Cresteds, have such difficulty when I go on vacation that it's really tough to leave them. Kenneling is out of the question because my little boy is terrified of all strangers. I had a house sitter/dog sitter come stay at the house the last time but even that stressed them out so for the next two vacations, I'm having my adult son come stay with them. Don't know what I'm going to do in Jan 09 when we do the grand gathering and my son will be going with us but I'm already working on some plans. I would rather skip vacation than put stress on my sweet little babies.

Several years ago (and while I lived in a different state), there was a truck driver who parked his pickup on our street every morning and left his 3 dogs tied in the back of that pickup while he left driving his truck. As soon as I figured out what was going on, I called the local SPCA and had them come pick up those dogs. It was very warm out, they were in the sun and tied on pretty short ropes to keep them away from one another. There was no food or water. I did take water out to them because it took the SPCA a few hours to get there. That evening, that truck driver came to my door and asked me if I had seen anyone take his dogs. I told him I'd just gotten home and hadn't seen any dogs. There were no other houses around so I'm sure he figured somebody drove by, stopped, and took them. Didn't bother me in the least to lie about it. I do not understand the mentality of people who want to own dogs but do not want to take care of them properly.

Score one for the good guys!!! :cheer2: I would have done the same thing.

i'm with you, as much as i LOVE disney i hate leaving my bulldog at the vet, in fact we may not go this year because it is sooo hard on him (he gets depressed) this lady who left her 3 dogs should get beat by a stick with a nail in it!

We haven't gone on vacation for over a year because we didn't have anyone to stay with our dogs. Our son got married--house and dogs of his own--so we wouldn't expect him to stay at our house. Boarding is not an option with one dog--he probably wouldn't eat all week long. The other is 115 lbs and laid back but she'd still be confused. They're 9 & 10 and have never stayed anywhere else.

People tell us all the time we're crazy and they'd "get over it" but we won't do it. Finally have a neighbor's son who we're going to try in a few weeks. I'm praying it works out for both sides. We really like to travel--even just for weekends.

I too hate to leave my pets behind. I have two cats, and the MIL will be coming to feed them and check on them daily. They do not like to be around strangers, so being in their own home is best for them. Last time we went away the MIL had to spend a lot of time hunting around for my younger cat because he always hides when she comes. I wish he was a more sociable kitty, I want everyone to see the funny, sweet, talkative cat that I see!

The dread I feel when I have to leave them is awful. I only vacation for a week every 2 or 3 years, but I still feel guilty. Thankfully, I am able to get daily updates from the MIL through email, so that helps alot!

Hi
Those poor dogs. Some people are so horrible!! I hate the thought of leaving my dog when I go away on vacation. I usually get the dog sitter that I've used for years to stay in my house or have one of my grown kids stay in the house. My DH and I are going to DW in Dec and my son will stay with our dog while we're away. She's 13 1/2 and we've never put her in a kennel. I wouldn't go away if that was the only alternative. When I get home from a trip, she cries and cries and I feel so guilty.

I just don't understand some people - why get a dog if you are not going to be willing to take proper care of him/her? :sad2:

My dogs can't be left at any type of kennel. Last time we tried our black lab actuallly refused to eat (which if you know anything about labs, is really unusual!). We rushed to go get him thinking something was terribly wrong. Of course as soon as we got him home he scarfed down his food. Guess he was just going on a hunger strike out of protest. At least we know he likes us! :goodvibes

From now on, if we can't take them with us, it's grandma and granpa's house where they will get spoiled rotten.... well more rotten ;)

I'm in the process of getting a divorce... my soon Ex, wanted to adopt a Greyhound for years... so we finally got one when my daughter was 3... Like I said he's left us and moved in with his new girlfriend (all this within 3 weeks of leaving us) He then told me to get rid of the dog, he's too much trouble and he does not want it... What a loser... my daughter adores Pharaoh and I will not put her through losing her father and her pet. He's been with us for 4 years now, a rescued race dog and I love him and he is part of the family...

We have to cats. We use to board them too but it was to much on our oldest cat Mickey. He is very nervous around strangers and runs and hide anyways so we make it a point to have friends come by and check there water dish and change there cat box. Tinkerbell the youngest of the two is more social so she always greets our friends/neighbors at the door.

People like that who take on the responsiability of animal need to realizie it's a life long responsiability. I too hope they throw the book at her.

Good grief! Some people aren't as evolved as the dogs!
My babies go to "Grandma's" when we go to WDW.. an vice versa. Granted, we have three dogs, but my Mother' 112 lb Golden Retriever weighs more than my three girls combined!

It is tough to find a vet that will board exotics, I have 2 rabbits and there is only one vet in town that will keep them and they have to be given strict instructions. These bunnies are well, only 2 of my babies, but they are just that, my babies. My mom kept all of my pets in August when DH and I went to WDW and she was quite busy for those couple of days and one of my cats wouldn't let her go to the bathroom by herself, he had to follow her.

Now, when we all go away in December my DH's BF will check on them daily and feed them. I do not expect someone else to change my cats litter, so I buy those disposable cat sand trays and leave several of them out, then just throw them away after they use them. We have to leav down puppy training pads for the dogs, but our neighbor will come let them out for alittle while each day. If we go for a week, I board them, our vet will put 2 of my cats in each pen so they aren't alone, they are with another cat they know. Just got the dog, so we don't know how that will work, I am actually hoping to pay my BF to take care of them, becasue she could probably use the money I would pay the vet and everyone is much happier in their own home anyway.

I just hate people that abuse animals. I will report your a** in a heartbeat.
