Poor Animal Kingdom doesn't seem to be a favorite, but we LOVED it! The park is beautiful and we found lots to do.

This wasn't my first trip to the world, but it was my first visit to Animal Kingdom. Myself, sister and DS 2 visited last week. Animal Kingdom was a lot of fun and it's definitely NOT a 1/2 day park. When I first walked in, I thought that it smelled so I was thinking to myself "uh oh", but I kept a positive attitude. We started the day with Donald's Breakfastorous which we really, really liked. Afterwards, we made our way to KS which was the longest wait of the entire trip (about 20 minutes). However, it was well worth it! We saw quite a few animals and DS learned a quite a few new words (elephant, monkey).

Next, we did the trail. There were 3 gorillas playing on the hill side, so we stopped to look at that. We saw the musicians perform in front of the marketplace in Africa and stopped again to see performers in the area near Tusker House.

We then lined up for FOTLK which is not to missed. DS LOVED it! He smiled a lot and said "Yeah!" several times during the performance. That made the entire trip worth it for me. He liked ITTBAB a lot too - lots of laughing here.

After Dinosaur, we did lunch at Tusker House (DS fell asleep) and it was really hot by that time, so we left around 2:00 pm. We didn't get to see Asia or really do the boneyard which I had intended, but it was too hot. Next trip, I will devote 2 days to AK. We didn't get to do the character greetings, or really hang out in Dinoland. Comment here - the carnival like theming of Chester & Hester's is really out of place IMHO. I missed Lucky, but oh well, you can't see it all. Another plus is that there are places where you can hide from the sun and those misting fans are an excellent idea.

Now the park that none of us really care for, is DS. The park really needs a lot more shade. After TOT and Beauty & the Beast, I'm pretty much done with it. I thought the Belle and Gaston from June 2004 were better than the pair I saw last Saturday, though they were still pretty good. Beauty & the Beast is my favorite movie, so I'm very particular about it. I don't know, it just seems to be something missing at MGM I just can't get my finger on it.

Epcot was my sister's favorite park, her first time at the World. WS was great as always. I did the Land for the first time. We all like the Land ride (I didn't think that I would) and Circle of Life film. Soarin was soooooooooooo excellent! It was so enjoyable, I just wish that it had been longer. I also did Test Track for the first time. For the first 1/3 of the ride, I was thinking "is this it?", but it more than made up for it the rest of the time. Illuminations was excellent as usual and we managed to snag great seats. DS loved it too. He also like the Innoventions play section where they can jump on the images and they make sounds. The flower & garden festival is beautiful and the toparies were nice. DS played in the little playground areas set up for the festival. He likes this park too, next time we will get him to color masks for each country.

Magic Kingdom was fun as always, my only negative would be that Adventureland needs some serious help. The Jungle Cruise really needs updating, however, I still love POTC. I also did the Tiki birds show. Let's just say that's 10 or 15 minutes of our lives that we can NEVER get back. Spectromagic and Wishes was awesome! It really does make a difference where you see it. I had a bad spot last year which took away from the performance. New rides for us include IASW (I'd ridden a long time ago, but it was closed for a refurb when we were there in 2004), Mickey's Philharmonic (very cute and DS laughed almost the entire time) and Indy Speedway. DS is really into his hotwheel cars, so this was perfect. It seemed to be a lot of people in the parks, but the wait times were very low (under 20 minutes) for many of the attractions.

We had a really, really fun trip. There were a lot of people IMO, but the wait times were very low overall. The Standby for Soarin was only 30 minutes. We were there May 18-22.

My next trip will be in the fall so that I can go to Food & Wine and MNSSHP.

Thanks for the report! Glad to hear you had a great time.

Animal Kingdom does get a bad rap-- unfairly so, I think, although I do have to say it's probably our least favorite out of the 4 parks. However, we really do enjoy it, alnd we always try to spend at least two "mornings" per trip there-- we usually get there at opening, stay til about 2:00 like you did, then head back to the resort for a break, returning to a different park (usually Epcot) about 5:00.

It was nice to read your report, as we'll be at WDW in just 8 days! Not long now! :cool1:

Glad you enjoyed AK. :cool1: It is really a wonderful park and there is so much to see and do. Can't wait to get back :p

I think part of the reason AK is considered a 1/2 day is that when it first opened, many of the rides weren't there yet.

Chester & Hester's Dinoland rides weren't there.
The water ride wasn't there.
Dinosaur wasn't there. (If my memory is correct)

With Expedition Everest and all the new additions, it is becoming more of a 3/4 day or full day.

Thanks for the park reports!

We also really like AK, I'm amazed at how many people don't like this park. Oh well, different strokes for different folks...

Sounds like you had a wonderful Disney trip!!! Is there a height restriction for the speedway if you ride with your child?? My dd is almost 3, but short for her age, so I was just wondering. Thanks!

ssshhhhhhhhhhhh

that Animal Kingdom park is TERRIBLE ( ;) ) no one - I mean NO ONE should waste any time there!!! 1/2 day - heck why not just skip it? :earboy2: (can you tell its my favorite? We try to never miss going there and actually the parade is one of my favorites in all of WDW. So many colors, characters, different experiences wrapped up in one park. To me, its like the World Showcase for the whole family!)

We are leaving tomorrow for a 4 day trip to Orlando! :cool1: :cool1:

We are staying at AKL and only doing SeaWorld and AK at Disney this trip. It is my Mom's first trip and she is not into the whole Disney thing and so I believe she will enjoy the atmosphere at AK over the other parks. We are big nature and animal lovers.

I just hope crowds don't pick up too much this week. I want to enjoy the park. We will be going there on Friday. :goodvibes :goodvibes

I know to get my PS for KS first....Important!! Love Bugs life show too.

Thanks for your report.

I also love AK! It ties with MK and Epcot as my favorite. Can't get excited about DS, especially since they got rid of Hunchback show. I am a little worried that the atmosphere of AK will change, and not for the better, when Expedition Everest opens. I am referring to the thrill seeking, adrenaline addicts

I agree AK is underrated!! This is a beautiful, lush park and you can tell it is newer. It doesn't need updating like some of the other parks including MK. We loved both trails. I especially liked the Asia trail, although I can't remember what it is called. We were there from opening until almost 4 and didn't see everything, including the parade which is supposed to be great. I agree about MGM--it's OK but my least favorite out of the 4 parks. Lucky was cool, although, it's a minor attraction IMO.

We all like AK, but sorry to say it is our least favorite. Reason is because of the layout. All the other parks round in a circle. AK you have to constantly back track. Since it is lacking shade that makes it difficult to handle when it is very hot. We all love Lion King Festival, and the other shows.

Animal Kingdom is the favorite park of my entire family of 5.

Next time make sure you see the parade. It is beautiful.

My kids could spend a whole day in the Boneyard.

Next trip we are planning 2 days at AK.

I would say MGM is #4 on my park list.

Caribear,

I actually did the driving as DS is only about 38". The kids have to be either 54" or 55" tall in order to drive.

I love AK, I think the whole park is really beautiful. We saw Lucky last weekend and he was really neat. I love Kilamanjaro, Its Tough to be a Bug and Dinosaur.

We can't wait for Expedition Everest to open, it looks like its gonna be SO COOL!! It's huge- we could clearly see it from the bus when riding around WDW property. I think people will spend more time at AK once that ride opens.

This year was the first time we laid eyes on AK, & we loved it! This fall we plan to devote at least 2 days to it. Really enjoyed the terrific, lush theming. Can't say enough good things about watching the animals.
Yes, MGM could use more shade & some more benches to enjoy it from! I am begining to appreciate MGM more, although I do agree it could use some 'oomph'.
I feel TomorrowLand could use a good refurb! the colors seem dull & faded, a little sad around the edges. With that style of 50's/60's moderne so trendy it could be quite a gas! I have to say I found the refurb on the Contemporary rather disappointing, style-wise only. Too tame. I don't mean it should be so trendy as to be ridiculously impractical--just some zip, please
More countries for WS! We often think what countries would be nifty: the Netherlands; Egypt; Australia; Thailand; India; Greece...

why aren't there benches in at least some of the WS movies? I haven't seen most of them 'cause these dogs are BARKING! :goodvibes
Thanks for yr detailed reviews! Sounds like you had a blas
t!

I haven't been in over 20 years, we would watch the fireworks wherever we were at or try to move while they were going off, sometimes we were even in lines. Were is a good place to be for Spectromagic and Wishes? Thank you

Its amazing to see the differences in what people like and dont like at WDW.

I love MGM and couldnt stand AK. I went to AK with an open mind but I beleive that it deserves the bad reputation it has gained. All the rides are substandard and it cant even be argued that the theming saves them like at other WDW parks (Dino USA, is it supposed to look like a cheap mid west carny midway?). The animal exhibits are again far below what can be found at Seaworld and Busch Gardens. I would recommend AK only for Bug's Life and the Tree of Life which is amazing.

I felt that MGM had the spark or vibe that the other parks were lacking. Best evening show, great street entertainers, beautiful 50's theming, and my favourite restaurant (Brown Derby) We went to MGM 3 times in 2 weeks because there always felt like there was something else to do. By comparison, a day in Epcot, MK, and AK was more than enough.

I agree with your point on Jungle Cruise, it really is very dated. Its appeal must lay in the nostalgic factor; i.e it hasnt changed since people were kids. I though Pirates was looking a bit old too but unlike you I loved Tiki Birds.

Each to their own I suppose.

Dinosaur was there when the park opened however it was called Countdown to Extinction.
