Pools heated?

Even though we just got back, I'm already planning my next trip (of course) for January 2004 for my birthday. I have a question to those who have been to WDW in the winter--are the pools heated? I stayed at ASMu in October (we loved it!) but the pools were freezing...felt good during the day, but made late-night swims a little chilly. Do they turn heaters on in the pools when the temp. drops in Jan. at nite?

Thanks!

All pools at the WDW resorts are heated, as are the currently open water parks.

We just got back from Poly and BC -- they told us the pools were heated; but they didn't feel like it! It's not like a hot tub warm.

I can't really say anything about any of the other pools, but I remember when I was a Monorail Pilot, I'd be driving by the Grand Floridian, and you could see the steam coming from the water... looked nice and toasty warm...

We went in the middle of November one year and stayed at Port Orleans - Riverside. It was a little chilly at night but the pools were nice and warm. The kids loved swimming at night and watching the steam come off the top. Made it so you didn't want to get out.

We have been twice in the winter (Dec and Jan). The pools are heated, but it's still a little cold. It doesn't feel that cold until you get out. Just be prepared to fast walk it back to your room.

We just got back Monday night, stayed at ASMu. There were quite a few people swimming every night. The temps were a little chilly at night, for me to go swimming, but they were in there. One chilly morning, there was steam coming off the pool, so I would guess that it was heated.

Thanks for help everyone. Maybe they were heated when I went in October...but it still felt cool to me. I'll just have to bring xtra towels to wrap up in after that quick dip! ;)

A lot of it depends on what your used to, but if they're heating the pool to 86 degrees that would explain the chilly feeling to us.
We don't attempt to swim in our pool until the water is around 90 or higher. If normal body temp is 98.6, it doesn't take a whole lot below that to feel cool. In the summer the cold feels great, but when it's cold outside....brrrrrrrr. :D Then again, we're a pretty wimpy group!

Oh, I am definitely with you, Peachgirl! We were there last January, and there were people swimming in the Contemporary pool and the temperature outside was in the high 30's and drizzling. Here we were in our long johns, heavy coats and ski caps, and these people were swimming like it was July! I felt so sorry for those lifeguards... they were wrapped from head to toe, shivering, and must have been terribly miserable!

Dopey Sharon ~ We just got back Monday night too. Also stayed at ASMu.

This was actually the first time we had a free day to go in the pools. The temp was perfect for us.

They sure didn't feel heated in October. POR was freezing. The weather was even hot.

We just got back from our October trip and they weren't heated enought for me.......:D

WIMPS! ;):jester:

Any water that's liquid is warm enough to swim in, at least in January!

Seriously, though, we have gone swimming on every WDW trip, including those in Jan and Feb. We bring sweatshirts and pants to put on for the walk back to the room. It's chilly when you get out, but we wouldn't miss it. :)

Zandy...I wish I had packed our bathing suits...we had some time to go swimming this trip...I thought it was definitely hot enough!
