Poolhopping?

We are tacking on a few nights (Fri, Sat, Sun and maybe Mon) at the end of our Panama Canal cruise at the Grand. Unfortunately, that Saturday is a block out day so we can't hit the parks. It will be warm , I'm guessing, so could we pool hop to DLH and get a cabana? My kids would be just as thrilled to swim, honestly.

And just checked the weather and look like it could either be awesomely hot or not as much (high 70s). If it's not swimming weather, any ideas for young kids to occupy them for an entire day, a half day after getting to Disneyland? That's going to be a hard sell!

If you are going to go the cabana route, you should reserve ahead of time. They tend to be booked ahead of time.

I don't know. It might be like booking the hotel and you won't be able to book 2015 until 2015, but I have no idea.

We really enjoyed our half day cabana rental at DLH, in fact we've already decided we're going to do a whole day rental next time and use it as a break day in the middle of our trip. You'll hear mixed reviews here, but we had a very good experience.

OP- Yes, you can book a cabana there. I have heard that you might have the best luck going directly through the GCH as they will know you are a guest there as opposed to the DLH which may not be able to access your info for the other hotel. I think the last person that did that said they did it directly through the hotel without any issues.

Not to hijack but question for those who know- we are staying at the GCH and were wondering if we could use the DLH pool one day since it is more kid friendly- anyone know if that is possible? We won't be there long enough to want a cabana but I was thinking about just going for an hour mid-day if they let us poolhop.

Are you sure about the first part? I hadn't heard that.

Regarding YOUR question, no, pool-hopping is not allowed at Disneyland. The only time you can use a pool outside for your resort is if the one that is at your hotel is closed for repairs, etc.

Ok, I will ask about the cabana, if not, we can close the parks the night before, sleep in, (ha!) take in a movie, do a character dinner and relax.

Currently, resort hotel guests can rent cabanas at either hotel. (This rule has changed twice in the last 2 years.)

When we call in, it is the same people doing reservations at both hotels. Have not had a problem with them locating our reservations.

I just reserved a cabana at the DLH and one at the GCH a couple of days ago by calling the GCH's #. I will be a guest at the GCH at the time and the agent at the GCH actually asked, "Which pool do you want that for?" I made one each. :)

Also, I've heard that although you need a room key to enter either pool, the room keys from the GCH also work at the DLH pool, so you could go there even without a cabana. This is second hand info; I forgot to ask when I called about the cabana, but maybe you could do so and let us know what you find out!

GCH does the cabana bookings for both pools. The rules state that you are not allowed to pool hop unless the pool at your hotel is closed.

I just got off the phone with Guest Services at GCH since we are staying at the VGC. I called to ask about the DLH cabanas and all the dates I asked about were already booked for full and half days. Going from July 6-11. We already have a cabana for GCH and I booked another one for GCH since i couldn't get DLH. By the way, why are the cabanas at DLR so much cheaper than GCH? Are different things offered?

Very recently on a dis podcast Tom mentioned that poolhopping was allowed when staying on-site and that was coming from a manager at one of the onsite hotels, I think it was the GCH but could've been the DLH.

That must be a new policy, then. I called in May to ask about this, and was given a definitive "absolutely not allowed" answer.

I heard that podcast too...

If I remember correctly Tom stated the manager said pool hopping is allowed, but not really promoted or publicized.

Cabanas are reserved by calling Disney reservations. Doesn't need to be GCH.

Well that's new and exciting.
