Also POP/AoA now have Surrey Bike rentals and POP has full size hair dryers instead of wall-mounts and Music is also changing over to full size hair dryers.
It traditionally has been, but All-Star Sports now has Pool Towels at both Surfboard Bay and Grand Slam(it remains to be seen if the other Values eventually follow suit).
Also, another amenity separating the Values from the Mods/Luxes,fridges,were added to the Values several years ago,so the "separating amenities" list is getting smaller.
Have never seen those, has it been a long time or you think testing at Sports. Seems if a thing, all the values would get.
But really it's not a big deal ............ I have rarely been at a non-deluxe hotel that had towels by the pool so no expectation here.
- Call for extra on arrival and they come, usually hanging on doorknob in a bag.
- Go to front desk and they will give them to you.
- Leave a note to the mousekeeper.
- Look around for mousekeepers/carts and go ask them for them.
- Watch for big carts of towels sitting in the "elevator lobbies" and help yourself.
We usually find a cart and grab a big pile of them and sit on the top shelf of the closet area. Usually enough for our predicted swims.
Maybe it's just my husband and I who do this but we just use the towels from the room for the pool, take them back to the room, hang them up and use them the next day after showering.
This is similar to what we do. We save our towels after getting showered because hey, you're just drying off your clean body at that point right? We let them dry afterwards and then bring them to the pool with us, and then after we send them off to housekeeping. In the event housekeeping takes the drying/dried towels off to be laundered before we get to use them for the pool, it's been so easy to get additional towels. It really isn't inconvenient at all to request more towels in any situation and I seem to always see housekeeping around and they've been happy to give me a few spare towels on my walk to the room. They've always come very quickly when I've called as well.
We really liked AofA last year but this ridiculous policy is one reason I may hesitate to choose a value ever again. It was simply unacceptable to have to remember to call housekeeping to bring extra towels and then carry them to the pool. Not sure how this saves them $ (having housekeeping spending what is probably hours a day delivering towels to most rooms). Stupid policy. If they're worried about people taking too many, have a sign in/out policy.
I don't think they're worried about people taking too many, I would think it's to cut down on doing wasteful extra loads of laundry. I'm sure it saves them money because they don't have to load rooms with piles of towels and then wash those towels that may have never been used, just because they were in a room and can't be certain if they were or not. Could you imagine how many more towels Disney would have to buy (at a discount I'm sure) and how many MORE laundry they would have to do if they gave every room say, for argument's sake, 12 towels instead of 6? I doubt they spend HOURS delivering extra towels - in fact when we've gone there have always been carts around with towels, or a housekeeping associate nearby that gladly gave us any. Whenever we've gone we've had 6 towels for two people (to start off with) and that's been more than enough. I don't think that is an unacceptable policy at all. It's not like they give you one towel a person or charge for extras.
Its silly yo make people call housekeeping for towels. Having a sign out place at the pool would cut down on towel hogs and solve the laundry issue. And, yes, they are worried about people taking 5 and the implications of that from a laundry perspective. if they had a sign out right at the pool and allowed 1 or 2 pp, that would solve any potential laundry issues.
It does look like a test, but if they decide to keep it,it could be a while before they start it at the other Values-Music had the Activities Program for several years before they started it up at the other Values.

And people pay attention to signs telling them to limit themselves to just one towel per person and to take them and put them into a sack so they can be laundered after they are used. And from a person who has worked in the hotel laundry business for a while, the standards are pretty high for having to do that laundry. You never know what can be in a towel in a bag that you are unloading. With your hands. So, hand gloves and masks are usually worn. Not like your typical household laundry.
