I won't confront either. But, it is a BIG reason I choose the resorts that I do. I hate the towel game. It makes me angry that people are so "entitled." So, I seek out places to stay where I won't have to deal with this. Such places ARE out there. And, even though they exist, there are STILL people who insist on playing the game. But, since there are plenty of spaces, it makes me LOL at their insanity rather than get angry that I can't find a place to sit because people have chosen prime spots for their towels to rest.
One could argue they are using the chairs to keep their stuff (coverups, books, sandals, hats) all together.![]()
I agree with you that just a towel is fair game. If you've seen a chair for more than an hour that has just a towel on it, go for it. Where I draw the line is throwing someone's belongings off a chair. Nobody has the right to do that.
Not really. I wear sandals and a tshirt when I go to the pool. I'll also have book with me to read. So when I go in the pool, what am I supposed to do with all the stuff?I think that's what your room is for, isn't it?
If I saw someone's bag or flipflops or some other personal belongings sitting on a pool chair for an hour I'd bring it to lost and found and tell them that someone must have left the pool area and forgot their stuff.
Those chairs are for people, not for their crap. Use it with your body or lose it as far as I'm concerned.
If you are using the pool for an hour, you are there using the pool. I think its rude and selfish to take a chair for an hour to hold your stuff when there are other people going down there to actually use the chairs.
If you are going in for a dip, nothing wrong with that, but if its for an extended period of time then you aren't using a chair, your stuff is, and IMO that isn't right. If the pool isn't busy and there are chairs for people to use, fine but if its crowded and you see people looking for a place to sit or lounge then you being are a selfish entitled jerk.
Well then the resorts need to come up with a solution. A pp mentioned lockers which would solve the problem. But people need a place to put their stuff and there is no place other than the chairs or tables.
Thumbs down on charging for the lockers. I don't know that they even need lockers. They could have a "cubby" system somewhere (themed of course) for people to put their belongings.Animal Kingdom Lodge pool lockers:

How would you know whether someone is in the pool, at the beach, in the bathroom, buying drinks at the beach bar, in the gym working out, or in their room napping?
Problem is, how do you know if someone is physically in the pool area or not?
What number am I thinking of?I am all knowing
That's one thing I've never figured out (this issue comes up all the time on cruise critic also). I've got way more to do than watch and see if a chair has been empty for 30 minutes (much less 60). If I've found somewhere else to sit, there's no problem, right? If I'm doing something else it doesn't matter if the chair is claimed.I assume you would have already seen the chair and noticed no one has been around for an extended period of time already and that there are no other available chairs.
If I have a chair I don't pay attention. The times where I noticed it is when I show up and there are no empty seats but dozens of lounge chairs with just towels on them. So I end up putting my stuff in a pile on the ground and seeing if anyone shows up to use any of the chairs. Obviously I wouldn't move a towel from a chair if there were other chairs available. That's one thing I've never figured out (this issue comes up all the time on cruise critic also).
