Navigator says that it is NOT PERMITTED to save sun loungers on decks 9 and 10... does that mean that we can move towels left on chairs since early morning? How do we make it fair for all?

This rule is ambiguous at best. Walk around on deck and you'll see more lounges than you can count with towels draped over them but nobody there. How can one tell whether it's abandoned or if the person just went for a drink, or to the potty. etc.?? I think a person should leave a book or something else to signify that they are coming back. Of course the nay sayers contend that their book will get swiped... guess I can understand that.

So I think that if you find the spot you want and all you see is a white towel, use the chair. If someone comes back and gets poopy about it being their chair, get up and leave!

Strangely, on our cruise last year, you could have your pick of deck spots, and the ship was full to capacity, so all this was a non-issue.

Fortunately, we have a cat. 3 suite with a huge verandah this year, so I can have all the private deck space I want! ;)

The way I would personally handle it is this...
Have a copy of the Navigator, which clearly states the rules, handy.
Move the stuff from an "abandoned" chair.
If the person has enough guts to return later and complain to me, I would politely but firmly take out the navigator and "remind" them of the rule. If they got really obnoxious, I would ask a crew member to intervene, but I doubt it would come to that.
We've been fortunate as far as deck chairs are concerned...the only time we've had a problem is when hubby got to the front row of the Walt Disney Theater on the lefthand side at the same time as somone on the right...as he was sitting, she informed him that she was saving the whole front row. We just totally ignored her and she didn't say anything else, but we would have spoken up if she had pressed the issue.

I'm with you on moving the towels... I'm on vacation and refuse to get up wee hours of the morning to save a chair... and with 15 in our group... we will be needing some chairs!!! (honestly, I can't imagine us all being together)

:p

Barb - having a copy of the navigator handy - good idea!! ;)

The pen is mightier than the sword! (Just hope the ticked off dude who's chair you're in doesn't have a sword!!) LOL

Maybe I have rose colored glasses, but I have a hard time seeing this becoming a real big issue. Lots of chairs up there...

I would definately take the chance of moving the towels. We were on the 7/6 Western and on sea days all you saw when you went out by the pool were white towels and no people. This was about 9:00 a.m. and we found 2 of the last chairs left. Some of the chairs sat for hours without anyone coming to use them. The days we were in port we had no problems getting chairs, even in the afternoon.

If all the towels are white... how can anyone be certain of exactly which chair they saved???:p :smooth: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :jester:

I was wondering the exact same thing! LOL

Take one of those DCL Bic pens from your room, and write your initials on the corner of the towel... They use so much bleach when they launder those towels, it won't matter!

On our first cruise, when I walked out & saw all the nice, clean towels draped on all the chairs, I thought that the CMs had put them out for everyone & happily sat down!! Oh well - guess the people who left them were either ticked-off or gone the whole time!! Ahhhh, ignorance is sometimes bliss. :)

When we were on the cruise last April, there was a message on each chair that said saving them was not allowed. If the messages are still there, you don't need the navigator, just point to the chair.

How long can someone be gone before the chair is considered abandoned or unfairly saved? What does everyone think? Is it 10, 20, 30, 60 or more minutes? If you sit down on a chair and someone comes back XX minutes later to try to claim it, what would you do?

I like your way of thinking!!! By the way where do you find the pool towels???

According to my business law texts, "Possession is 9/10ths of the law." So, my thinking is, if my butt is in the "saved" chair, I have a greater claim to it than someone that put a community property towel on it. And, if that doesn't work, there is always the "homesteading" argument. Just a thought. :)

That was really funny - Buckaroo's Dad.

You can get clean towels in a large wood cabinet by each pool area. You place your dirty towels in a different cabinet. When you get off at Castaway Cay they will hand you towels as you exit the ship.

Believe me after a few days of tlhis type of treatment plus great food and no cooking, cleaning or dishes - it's hard to get back to reality.

The idea of saving those loungers has always been a sore spot with me - not just on DCL but anywhere. So I like the idea that there seems to be a little enforcement.

If I am in the pool or had to take DD to the restroom, etc. the only personal stuff I might take with me is camera. Books, etc. I letf. Never had problem being "taken".

Towels are on the large counters with receptacles for used ones if I remember correctly - they are off to the side and almost look like oversized versions of the trash receptacles found at fast food places!

On this topic, our last cruise my DD (10) and I went up to the Goofy pool deck and no loungers were available. So we took a table, I ordered a beverage, and we commenced to having a grand time. DH came and went, DS was off in the Lab. After about 30-45 minutes one of the CM working the bar service came over and said "Madam (love that European approach), if you are interested I have just located a lovely lounger for you poolside. That is if you don't mind a bit of shade." I smiled delightedly, moved and tipped him generously when I ordered my next beverage! ;)
