Pool Rules?

We want to go to Boma one night, but the kids aren't interested. We are putting the 5 year olds in Simbas Clubhouse, but the question is about the almost 10 and 12 year old boys. Can they just go to the pool while we are at Boma? They are great swimmers, etc. Do they have rules though that show a minimum age that the kids must be to be there alone? Thanks!

Okay, this is just MHO, but I don't think it is ever wise to leave kids that young, unsupervised and alone...especially not in the water. We have a pool at home and my DD is a great swimmer...but me..NO WAY.

Chances are very good they would be fine...but...what if something happened and you weren't there? I would be sick with worry and not enjoy my dinner one bit, but that is just me.

Officially, I have no idea what the rules are though...maybe someone else can help.

Only guests of the AKL resort are allowed to use the pool. Even DVC owners who normally can pool hop are not allowed to use the AKL pool.

Also, I believe 12 and younger are to be supervised by an adult with them at the pool.

Thanks, these are the facts I was looking for...not opinions on what my friend should do in raising her children!

If you've spent any time looking over the threads on these boards, you'll have noticed that there are a few hot button topics. Let's see, refillable mugs, kids at Pleasure Island and pool hopping are just a few that immediately come to mind. As this is an open forum, you are going to get responses that are both opinion and fact. If you're strictly looking for Disney's bottom line policy, then you're best bet is to probably go straight to the source and contact Disney's guest services department. I believe that information is right on the official WDW website under "contact us".

They might surprise you and like Boma... we ate there last week and my kids found MORE than enough to keep their stomachs' full!!! (If the kids aren't adventurous eaters, there's standard kid-fare... mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, chicken wings) as well as lots of fresh fruit, and desserts galore. If you are leaving the kids out for a 'quiet' night, don't bother... its loud and 'cafeteria-like' in there... don't get me wrong- I love it; it's just not any different atmosphere than any of the other moderately priced buffet places in or out of WDW.

Only resort guests are allowed to swim at resort pools, so if you are not staying at AKL then they cannot swim there.

I do think there is a minumum age that requires adult supervison, but I do not recall the age.

I have a 10 & 11 yr olds boys and personally I would not let them swim without DH or I being right there. Sorry, I would be unable to forgive myself if anything were to happen - I'm a worrier.

If you are leaving the kids out for a 'quiet' night, don't bother... its loud and 'cafeteria-like' in there... don't get me wrong- I love it; it's just not any different atmosphere than any of the other moderately priced buffet places in or out of WDW.

Interesting I have been on these boards and others like it for a longgg time and I really had no idea you couldn't pool hop! Has it always been this way? I have a friend that goes a LOT and she always pool hops, so I assumed it was OK! Oh well, they will survive in the kids club thing. Never had any interest in doing it myself, so haven't read those threads I guess.

I will go post about that too, but if any of you know....will the older two be bored at the kids club?? I would be cheaper to just take them to dinner though really!

Haven't ever seen the Kids at PI one before either...again, just not a topic that crosses my mind, have NO interest in even going there myself!

And yeah, it is an open forum, but doesn't mean I can't just get tired of the unwanted parenting advice! I did just ask for the facts. Isn't up to me if my friend lets her kids go to the pool alone. She will let them at POR when we are there, if the rules allow, same as she would at home. Shoot, can't they go to the PARKS alone?? Isn't the age like 9 or something crazy?

When Disney was much smaller and did not have 3 different types of resorts, they allow guests to visit other pools. They stopped this years ago though. Their are signs posted at every pool stating the rules that the pool is for guests of this resort only. It is also posted in the newsletter you get when you check in.

I would think as long as the boys can intertain themselves for the time period they would not get bored.
