Pool refurb at AKL?

We are planning a short September trip. I think I read somewhere that AKL pool may be undergoing a refurb in the fall. Does anyone know a timeline on that?

Right now the dates are 9/4-12/4. The pool at Kidani will be open.

What is the world are they doing to the pool? We are staying at Kidani in October and I am really concerned about how crowded the pool is going to be. That is a really large pool to be closed for that period of time...especially in a time when it is still relatively warm. This seems more like a Jan 2- Mid March type refurb to me...

Sometimes draining it is needed. I suspect some of the piping or lights need work.

Obviously, it is a major renovation, but I just find it strikingly odd that they would do this during a relatively warm and busy time of year. September, October, and November (to some degree) are really warm times and that is a LOT of people to expect to use the Kidani pool.

It just seems like they should have waited until the day after the Holiday crowd leaves, say Jan 2, and started the renovation then. It could have been over before the Spring rush. Moreover, it would have occurred in a less busy period (I know that hardly exists) and a time when a lot of days are short and the weather does not permit a great deal of swim time. There are many times they have to close either TL or BB during those early months of the year.

I guess my opinion means nothing, but I definitely feel it is a disservice to have one smallish pool for such a large resort in warmer times...

AKL can be more of an issue when they do something like this simply because Kidani guests have to travel quite a distance to use the Jambo house pool but at least that is an option. We made the best of it a few years back and it really was not that bad. They run a shuttle van to Jambo or you can walk or drive over, which we did. Just glad our trip this year starts a week after it re-opens, so hoping it stays on schedule.

I do agree, it seems that it would have been more customer friendly to do it later in the year/beginning of next year. My only thought is either a.) this was the only time to slot it in between all their other projects ( and there are a lot ) or b.) the problem was something that required actions to be taken sooner vs. later.

We'll be a part of those inconvenienced during the stay as we are there 11 nights right after it closes up. We thought about moving resorts but since we only have 1 pool day and it's September so who knows if a pool day will even be possible with the weather the desire to stay at AKL won out.

We also received the email about the pool at Jambo being closed during our stay in mid-September. Although inconvenient, we are not the type to let things impact our vacation that are out of our control.
