We just moved into a new house (September 1st), and there is a 24’ Round above ground pool in the backyard. The pool was never opened this summer, as we have officially owned the home since May 31st, and the sellers were renting back from us while they built. We live in Minnesota, and with winter upon us, I called the sellers to ask if we needed to do anything to get the pool ready. She told me that it was winterized last winter, and never opened this summer, so we don’t need to do anything except siphon any extra water off the top of the cover and tie it down tight. She said the chemicals from last winter will still be there.

Can anyone verify this to be true. We’re very excited about the pool, and don’t want to ruin it with our lack of knowledge.

TIA!!!!

Don't have a above ground pool (we've got inground), but I'd seriously question whether these chemicals used in winterizing are good for a full year...

I'd re-winterize just to be safe....

If you have a pool store around I would call and ask them. Ours is good for the winter - it is amazing you take the cover off and the water is crystal clear.

As a person who just got a pool, I would NOT believe what the sellers said.

If I were you I would hire someone to come in an educate you, check the equipment, etc....especially since they have not done a thing.

There could be a simple repair that may be needed which cause your pool equipment to fail or freeze. Prevention is critical with a pool.
