Some have complained about the potential noise that would be created by a pool slide at OKW. Has anyone been around for the "Pool Party?"

Now THAT is offensive noise! Last trip we arrived ready for some relaxation early on a Sunday afternoon to be greeted by the most obnoxious blaring cacophony, which they euphemistically call a "pool party."

I hope they've eliminated it! It's horrible. If not, at least do some Jimmy Buffet and reggae and tone it down a little.

We experienced the same thing while checking in last year. The music was loud, the guy on the mike was obnoxious. It broke the mood, that's for sure.

We were there without the kids and it was so peaceful and just what the doctor ordered and then it happened. The POOL PARTY! I know some really enjoy and we could have left to go to a quiet pool but we were just off the plane celebrating our 15th anniversary in the warm sun and KABOOM it was like a drill seargent walked into the barracks banging garbage can tops together. We then picked up our drinks and left back to the quiet room.

I agree! We were in Building 26 and even when in the building there was no way to escape it.

The DJ reminded me of a characature of a bad early 1960's DJ. Sort of a morf of Wolfman Jack and Sam Kinnison!

I'll take the noise of kids playing on the slide over that DJ any time.

Its only one day out of the week for about 2 hours I really dont see what the big deal is at all. If you let that ruin your vacation I dont know what to tell you. The kids need to have fun as well. Maybe that will be a plus with the addition of the slide. It will provide children with more things to do and maybe they will do away with the 2 hour a day "pool party". My family looks forward to it and by the looks of it many other people do too, and they can still relax. We have met many of new friends because of this event, because they go around and pick people to sing and dance and I believe that it brings the OKW family together. I hope they do it for many years to come.

I realize that some people like the party. We went to the pool anyway and it definitely didn't ruin our vacation.

However, it was definitely NOT Key West. It was NEW JERSEY! Maybe that's why I felt out of place. As a native Floridian who spent lots of my childhood in the Keys, I definitely felt like an outsider in that culture.

There are parties in the Keys. Why not theme the "Party" with some Jimmy Buffet and reggae stuff? That would keep more with the Key West feel.

It WAS too loud. That's why I used the word "obnoxious." You could hear it from our bldg down the road. It didn't need to be that loud. Maybe they've reduced the noise level since last year.

Just my opinion. I'm glad some people enjoy it. I still love OKW -- and "some of my best friends are from New Jersey."

My parents were at OKW in October and they too could not enjoy the pool. They joked around that they brought the noise guy there because every time they went he was just about to start up. My parents said they even heard a little bit of the noise from the balcony in building 14. Back in October he was at the pool every other day.

We leave in 17 days and I can not wait to get to the pool . We love the pool parties and the games they play. DH and I usally participate and our kids just go on their way to play in the water. Who says Disney is just for kids?

Yes we heard this guy also. Very loud. We didn't go to the party but judging from his accent he was not from Key West.

I really wouldn't have minded if it was ONLY two hours a day.

But all day Saturday, Sunday and Members Day is a bit much.

I'm all for eliminating the DJ!

im pretty sure its not all day its only a few hours i was just using 2 hours as an example, its not like its from 9-6, that to me is all day. what is a few hours of fun for the kids going to do?? it sure doesnt hurt me. it brings out the kid in me. remember everyone here was a kid at one point in time and loved to do things like this. no kid wants to sit by a pool and just lay there its like they are in time out. people dont want a slide and now they dont want the dj and the games. lets just take away the kids next incase they make to much noise

PhillyDVCOKW..............I must agree with you on this one.

This past summer it was on Sundays and Tuesdays (Members DaY) and our kids had a blast. Us too!! We met so many new people by playing trivia and games that we normally wouldn't have just sitting our butts on the chairs!!

If I recall correctly it was only for about 2-3 hours mid-day!! That leaves plenty of time for quietness at the main pool. And remember, there are plenty of options to miss the "Pool Party" with the other quiet pools on the facility!!

Slide: Yes

Pool Party: No

I have hated it every time I've heard it. Avoided it like the plague and pool-hopped over the BWV to get away from it.

Didn't love the pool party, but it didn't ruin my vacation. I'd like it better if they played more Jimmy Buffet, less beach Boys, and the guy wasn't so darn LOUD! The kids who were at the pool seemed to enjoy it though, and if it really bugged me that much, I'd have gone to a quiet pool.

We were there for Four days over Columbus day and I beg to differ but it was everyday at around 12:30. I agree it was more like NJ or NY ad I was born in Brooklyn where the DJ said she was from. Loud is the only word to describe it.

I agree! We experienced the pool party twice in August and it was obnoxious!!! Felt like I was at a wedding!!! With kids who were between the toddler and big pool, we needed to be at the main pool.

I totally respect the fact that other folks enjoy this entertainment. I recall in times past where a DJ was there and the party was limited to the section of the pool near the lighthouse. It wasn't overly loud or invasive. With the current version of the pool party, there's no way to escape it other than not being there.
