Pool hoses - a question

Are the more expensive hoses really better? We bought some cheap junk and DH ended up swearing his head off and ran to the pool store to get some better hose.

Is he wasting his time/money?

I am not sure about hoses for the pool, but do know that with regular hoses (can't imagine they are any different for a pool), more $ does get you a better hose, easier to use, better composition. Cheap ones kink, have chintzy fittings, and easily wear out. A better one, more $, handles much better.

I'm not really sure -- DH and I just went through this with our pool. We had the original hoses that came with the package for about 3 years and one needed to be replaced. It was near the end of the season and the only ones left were the "expensive" ones so I bought one. It only lasted a year and a half and needed to be replaced. Could be the luck of the draw but we bought the "cheap" one this time (read: beginning of pool season) and we'll see which one lasts longer. The way I figure it, the more "expensive" one would have to last 3x as long as the "cheap" one because it's 3x the price. (Hopefully I'll have an answer in about 3 years

Well, I'm happy to report that the more expensive hose DID work much better. We've had quite a time with getting our filter and electrical hookups up to the town code.

The pricier hose connected easily and quickly. The cheaper one wouldn't fit right and kept leaking.

So, as my Dad would say "You get what you pay for".

Trust me on this, buy the best hoses you can, or you'll come home one night and your pool will be empty!!!!!

Been cheap, learned the hard way, many times. Good pool hoses are a must, please do not use crappy ones.

I've had a pool for 13 years and now my pool is soft Piped (PVC) with shut off valves, its heaven.

When I was a teenager, I witnessed a neighbor's pool just collapse right in front of my eyes. My friend and I just sat there dumbfounded and watched it fall apart and spew water all over the place.

And nope, nobody was home at the house.

And BTW, my DH used to play softball for a bar called RayJays.

That's too funny, I use to play softball for Good-Buy Charlies
(A Packy), 1 year we lost the championship and the other team held up signs saying "Goodbye Charlies"

I also use to have a bowling league named RayJay's Rollers - We won the league that year.

RayJay has been a nickname for forever.
