Since we cannot relate home ownership to where we stay, complete the following sentence.............
I stayed at ..(blank)......resort and we did/did not pool hop

We usually leave MK and pool hop at GF or Poly or WL for a few hours break in August, or when walking form EPCOT to MGM we stop at BWV, unless we are at BCV-then we stop at SAB.

Pool hopping is a bad idea that should come to an end. People have no right to invade a pool at a resort you are not staying at, the people staying at that resort have a right to the property they paid for without outsiders using it.

Havent stayed at any DVC resort since we bought in 01
However, when we stayed at PO/FQ in 02 we did poolhop "home" to VWL
and in our last minute situation it was best that we could at least get a taste of "home"

Pool hopping is a perk that DVC member's receive, it should definately NOT go away. The hotels always have the right to limit DVC access during peak times, so I think that as DVC members we have paid enough and would not consider us "outsiders".

If you booked at another hotel or offsite then you should not be able to, but DVC should!

Our family has pool hopped quite a bit as we go off season and the parks sometimes close at 7pm or earlier. This makes a great evening for us. Why take it away?

When we first purchased the BWV we pool hopped over to SAB a couple of times because it was a close walk. Since pool hopping ended at SAB we, never did it again and probably never will. We purchased points at the BCV to get our SAB fix.

Does this mean that all resort hopping should be curtailed as well? Disney should not allow 'outsiders' to

Shop in the Resort stores?

Eat in the Resort restaurants?

Tour the hotel - either to enjoy the theming or maybe Christmas decorations?

because the paying guests 'have a right to the property they paid for without outsiders using it?'

I have to disagree. Disney has currently decided that DVC members have the 'perk' of using certain resort pool areas when they are NOT already overcrowded. Pool hopping is NOT allowed when the pool is near capacity.

In about 5 weeks worth of DVC stays we have pool hopped twice. Once to the GF and once at the BWV. Neither pool was even REMOTELY crowded and we did this in July. While there we supported both the pool bar with our drink/lunch purchases, and dropped $50 for hair wrapping at the GF!

I'm thinking Disney did OK. And few to no guests were harmed during these infrequent visits.

When we stay at our home either VWL or BWV, we are quite satisfied with our pool... feel no reason to hop.

Over the last few years, we've also stayed at a few non-home resorts... AKL, YC, GF, CS... Really enjoyed the pools there too.

I think we have pool hopped once since joining DVC in '99, that was to SAB the month prior to losing that perk.

So, if they take the perk away, that alone wouldn't concern me. However I am always concerned any time the value of DVC is reduced in any way.

We have only pool hopped once back in the summer of 2001. It is not an issue to us anymore.::MickeyMo

I like the pool hopping perk. We like to visit the parks early, return to our hotel, then return to the parks in the evening. On those days we do not pool hop and enjoy the pool at our resort in the heat of the day. But I also like to plan some down days in between visiting the parks. I'll make a PS reservation at a restaurant at another resort and enjoy the afternoon in that pool prior to dinner. Last year we did this at the GF. We spent the afternoon at the pool (having lunch by the pool). Changed by the pool and enjoyed dinner with Cindrella at 1900 Park Fare. It was a relaxing day enjoyed by us all and something different from our resort. The kids didn't mind not spending the day at the park. It keeps everyone from getting the tired crabbies from spending too much time at the parks.
Personally, I hope it doesn't go away.:(

When I stay at BCV there is no reason to pool hop because I think SAB is awesome.:cool2:

When I stayed at OKW the only reason I considered pool hopping was because there was no slide for the kids. But now that the slide is going in at OKW, I have no reason to pool hop at all. :yo-yo:

Pool hopping is only available if you are a DVC member staying on points. Were you staying on points at POFQ?

Members are not entitled to pool hop just because they are a member.

I've never pool-hopped, but did entertain the idea when switching form OKW to BCV, but the BCV room was ready when we arrived so there was no need!

After a day at the Magic Kingdom we'll take the monorail over to the Poly and enjoy the pool. After getting refreshed in the pool we eat at O'hana and watch the fireworks out the window. If we time it right we also watch the electric light parade on the water. That makes for a great day!

Could not have said it better. Plus if your not in the pool your staying at, there is space not being used there for other guests or pool hoppers.

We always stay at OKW and always pool hop.
Now that the new slide is being put in (with lifeguards added at the main pool, I hope!!) it could be I'll have less of a reason to pool hop.

The only reason we have pool hopped is for the kids to use a slide when we were staying at OKW and to visit friends at their resort/pool to hang out since we could pool hop to their resort(s) (CSR and DXL) and they are not allowed to do so.

Do you think the poll is enough of a sample to make some conclusions about which pools (SAB and VWL/WL) are more popular than others (BWV, OKW)?

thanks

I think a more valid point would be that the older resorts ( OKW and BWV ) have owners who've owned a lot longer than the others and have a higher proportion of guests that now look for other entertainment than the parks. Those at OKW who were lucky enough to have the free park tickets up to Dec 1999 may well have decided that in the first year or two of that perk expiring to avail themselves of other entertainment.
