I just read the thread about SAB and pool hopping and it made me dizzy. We are a family of 5, kids are 18DD, 7DD, and 4DS. We bought into OKW in 94 and have made an average of 2 trips a year and have never pool hopped. I know during our tour there were no other DVC resorts and really don't remember the topic coming up.

My question is is pool hopping that big of a perk. My kids like the pool at OKW just fine and since we don't have one at home it is a treat. If pool hopping was not allowed (I still think it is but after reading the posts I am not sure) would you have still bought into DVC?

The one perk I like is the boat discount. Every trip I have to rent the big pontoon boat and take the extended family on a 3 or 4 hour trip. This usually includes stopping at DD and eating at Captains Jacks (my name is Jack also). They all get a big thrill of me parking the big boat at the dock and walking into the place. We will be going in July (19-26) and all ready the extended family wants to know what day we are going out.

Ft. Wilderness (many trips in the late 70's, early 80's)
Poly (85-88)
Dixie Landings (90 - 93)
OKW (94-2003 at least 2 trips a year average)

:D

For me, the pool hopping is a nice perk, but if it were to go away, it wouldn't ruin my vacation experience. Since we originally bought at HH and planned on staying there most, pool hopping was not even a consideration for us to buy in. We now own both OKW and BCV points and pool hopping wasn't a consideration to purchase either. We don't have a neighborhood pool or a pool in the backyard, so my kids don't care where they swim as long as they can swim. They like OKW's pool just fine and if that's the only pool they can swim in, then so be it. We did pool hop to BWV last summer on our last day just for something different. I doubt we will do it on a regular basis because it is a hassle and I definitely wouldn't do it without a car.

Hey Ziggy1 -

We didn't even consider pool hopping in the equation when we were making the purchase decision. We did, however, enjoy taking trips to other resorts to see what they looked like and decide if we'd like to stay there in the future...and we would always check out the pools. Even this past trip we took detours to some of the other resorts to check them out for future consideration.

Pool-hopping is a great perk, but we still would have joined even without this perk.

That's a question only you can answer for yourself. If you think the idea of going to another resort just to swim in their pool when you have a perfectly good one at yours is silly, then no. If a "must do" part of your vacation is visiting a new resort pool, then Yes it is. Then there are people like me. I don't own a handgun, but I don't want the government to tell me I no longer can,(please,no gun control debate and I actually don't have as much interest the PH issue as I do gun control, just used it as an example).

I don't think people should be bringing handguns to the pools regardless if it is at their home resort or while pool hopping. The heated debates that occur when those breaking the pool hopping rules are asked to comply may take an unwanted turn, and there are several children in the area, that may play with an unmonitored firearm. Handguns and pools don't mix.

Handguns and pool hopping are both subjects of controversy. Only one is claimed to be supported by the constitution and I would miss neither.:smooth:
