My (will-be) husband and I are going to WDW for our Disney honeymoon, and will be staying at SSR with DVC points. We were wondering about pool hopping. I know in the past that there were certain pools that were off limits (like Storm Along Bay), but has it changed in recent years? Or is it okay to go to say, Boardwalk, if you're a DVC member?

Thank you! :wave2:

There's a pool use thread stickied at the top of this page which will answer all your questions on this subject.

The "sticky" says to check the DVC site for the current rules. Go there, sign in, go to: Membership Magic, Perks, Recreation & Relaxation, Pool Hopping Information.

If you are the DVC member staying on your points at a DVC resort and pool hopping isn't blacked out, you might be able to pool hop at some pools. But if you don't own the points used for the reservation and you do not have a DVC member card in your name, you cannot. If the points belong to your parents and you are not on the deed, you don't have a blue member card.

It will say DVC on your reservation(room card/magic band) and you can pool hop but there are black out dates and certain pools you cannot hop to(SAB, AKL, BLT) and its up to the life guards if you can hop. Their is a DVC pool hopping thread you should read or look up DVC pool hopping rules.

From the member website:
When staying on your (again, if you are not the member who owns the points, you cannot pool hop) Membership at any Disney Vacation Club Resort at Walt Disney World Resort, or Disney's Vero Beach Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that Resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability.

You must present your Magic Band or current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other select Resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, the Lava Pool and leisure pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, you and any Guests staying with you may not pool hop during the following dates*:

November 24 - 29 (Mon - Sat)
Dec 20, 2014 - Jan. 4, 2015 (Sat - Sun)
February 14 - 21, 2015 (Sun-Sat)
March 21 - April 5, 2015 (Sat - Sat)
June 27 - July 11, 2015 (Sat - Mon)
September 5 - September 7, 2015 (Fri - Mon)
November 22 - 29, 2015 (Sun- Sun)
Dec 19, 2015 - Jan. 3, 2016 (Sat - Sun)
*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

As a reminder, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

If you're using DVC points you are a guest of the owner of those points so you are allowed to pool hop. I'm a DVC member like you and my family has pool hopped when I wasn't on the vacation with them and they used my points since they are my guests using my DVC room and their Magic Band will come up as DVC when checked. No where does it say you need the DVC card to pool hop and it doesn't say you have to be with them when your guest pool hop it only says they must have a room card or magic band with the DVC designation on it.

I think now we're getting into "sticky thread" stuff, because of disagreements of how the rules read. :)

I think you might get a different answer over on the DVC boards. In order to legally pool hop, my understanding is that you must be using your DVC points. If that werent the case, then anyone who is renting points would be able to pool hop....and we have all been told that isn't allowed. It's a fine point as to so one being your 'guest'. They aren't DVC members, so aren't entitled to DVC perks.

But....many people try put other pools, and they aren't staying on points. So who knows what will be allowed on any given day. For me? Way too much hassle to pack up stuff and head to another resort to swim..

Pool hopping is for me and my guest staying using DVC points and they should be your guest if you want to get technical since you sign a paper saying that you will NOT rent DVC points when you become a DVC member. Disney just lets it go for now. Read the DVC rules it says you and your guest can pool hop to certain pools during certain times of year with the life guards permission, if they are using my points they are my guest and all they have to have according to the rules is a magic band or room card with the DVC designation on it which they will have. I does not say anywhere that I have to be with them for them to pool hop. I'm not interpreting the rules I am reading the rules.

Yup, it does. Me and my guest. Question of semantics. If you're not there, you can't be with them, now can you. It's the same as going to ToTW...you and your guest can go. Bit that doesn't mean that someone staying on your points, as 'your guest' can access that area. Nor can they get the DVC discount. Those are all perks of owning DVC.
I, for one, would be annoyed to find that just because someone was someone's 'guest' they were able to get the perks I have had to pay for. Others may disagree. This really is t a discussion for this board any way

you sign a paper saying that you will NOT rent DVC points when you become a DVC member

You do NOT. They are fine with us renting out points, we just cannot make a business out of it, and they define business.

They are very clearly and specifically NOT OK with us receiving money for *transferring* points to other members, but renting is fine up to the point when they decide it's a business.

Read the DVC rules it says you and your guest can pool hop to certain pools during certain times of year with the life guards permission

You replied to the rules being quoted. We are posting the way to get to the rules and we are posting the rules.

I does not say anywhere that I have to be with them for them to pool hop

"you and any Guests staying with you are permitted..."

You replied directly to the post of rules with that included.

Ack! Stopping now. :)

Well, I just read the "perks" sections of the DVC member website about pool hopping and TOTW access, and it reads to me like a member has to accompany the guests (staying "with" you.) It's especially clear for TOTW: "At least one Member in the traveling party must accompany the group and present his or her current Magic Band or Key to the World card with a Disney Vacation Club Membership notation in order to gain admission to the lounge and observation deck."

Also, Disney does not disallow renting points out. They don't allow money to be exchanged for transfers and they don't allow renting points out as a business.

Again, this is not the place to be discussing operational details of DVC membership. That's what the DVC Member Services board is for.

The OP has gotten their answer; this thread is closed.
