I agree that it would be neat if you could visit other pools for a fee. Or, if the pool wasn't crowded if they would maybe allow guests from other hotels of the same catergory to visit, as long as there was plenty of room for the guests of that hotel at the pool...
What I find specially interesting, is that I've read that at DL you can pool hop as long as you are going to pools at the less expensive hotels. For example, if you stay at the Grand Californian you also can use the pools at the DL hotel or Paradise Pier; if you stay at DL hotel you can also go to Paradise Pier (but not Grand Californian, because it is a more expensive hotel). It amuses me that Disney is willing to allow pool hopping at one complex (albeit a much smaller resort area) but not at another.
