We are staying at CR - will they allow us to go over to Poly and use their pool too?

No you can not because pool hopping is not allowed. The only times you can pool hopp if your a DVC member staying on points, or if your staying at sister resorts such as All Star Sports, Music & Movies, Port Orleans Riverside/French Quater, Yacht Club/Beach Club.

I suspected as much - but wanted the pool hopping to be allowed so bad, ha!

At least you were trying to go to a hotel that was in the same category, when we stay at WL we often see ppl from ft wilderness coming over to use the pool and slide and it just seems a bit unfair that we're paying 300+ to stay there yet they stay at the campground and take up our chairs at the pool Perhaps esp. at WL they need some sort of gated system to get into the pool area but I know it is looked down to pool hop. I guess their thinking is if you want to go to another pool then go to the waterparks! lol

Poly pool is crowded enough. If you want to swim there pay the rates and stay there:goodvibes. I don't stay at CR because I don't like the pool area, not enough shade. i would love the Poly if they started handing out wristbands for their resort guests.

There are signs at every pool in WDW, stating that the pool is for guests of that particular resort only. Doesn't matter what pool it is.....only their resort guests may use it. The AllStars share pools, POR and POFQ share pools but that's it.

No pool hoping allowed. When I was at the Yacht CLud you had to check in to the pool area and give your room key or something like that. But I think that is the only place that is gated? Stormalong Bay is so cool though so it is necessary!

I emailed Disney about this question because I swear I saw something that stated you could use any facilities on the property no matter which resort you stayed at but it doesn't seem to be that way. They sent me a nice response that didn't have to do with what some people will flame you on as far as how much you pay for a resort stay but because of the pool size and number of guest at that resort. A pool is set up for the size of and number of guest at that particular resort. If you have the pool set/designed for 100 and you get extras from other resorts then there could be a problem. So its not because we are poor, its because of the pool size and guests at that resort. I wish they would have a beach swimming area. Hope this helps....

Here are photos of a couple of the pool signs:

Wow - guess I sparked some people's hot spot. Sorry - I wasn't trying to be rude by pool hopping. I know when we stay at all-inclusives which have more than one hotel - they allow pool hopping, restaurant hopping, etc....so I just thought I'd ask. We are happy to be staying at CR, just thought we would try out Poly's pool as well if allowed. But, obviously, due to the rules, we will just stick to CR's pool.

Oh dont get us wrong, you can eat at different hotels, our family has eaten at contemp many times (when we stayed at WL) because they are getting our money, if we go and use the pool we aren't paying for that. I mean it wouldnt be such a big deal if one or 2 ppl came along from other resorts to use the pool but when a whole gob of ppl come over and take up chairs that the guests of that resort don't get, i think it's only fair that they offer up their chairs and space to those who are paying to stay there.

don't worry about it! sometimes people on here get a little... anal...this is one of the main "buttons" to push on these boards...that and using refillable mugs at diff. resorts , so don't ask about that! haha. people just need to understand that some people are new and just don't know instead of freaking out. (not saying anyone in articular did that) we wouldn't want you to not come back and post for fear of some of the members. good luck at the CR and I hope you enjoy your stay! :thumbsup2

Pool-hopping...VERY touchy subject! ;)

BTW, welcome to the DIS. Be careful, you might become addicted. :rotfl2:

I don't think most folks mean to infer that anyone is poor.:) I would have to agree though that it's very obvious that the moderate resort pools have more detailed theming than values and the deluxes even more so than the moderates. Just my opinion but it's not just about pool size although that may have been Disney's polite way of responding. With a higher rate per night usually comes more amenities and the pool would be one of those. If pool size were the factor then the values would have slides, etc.

One of the reasons I was initially hesitant to book the Polynesian is because of the pool hopping issue. Last trip we stayed at the BC and their pool is enclosed, so crowds weren't really an issue. We loved it there but didn't get to spend as much time at the resort as we would've liked. Anyway, this time around we'll be hitting the pool just about every day and I hope that hopping is not a problem. It has nothing to do with the fact that I think anyone is beneath me or about the have and the have-nots or being anal. I'm not wealthy and I've had to save up for this special trip (son's grad present) over two years. We should be able to use the amenities without having to be driven away by the crowds.

I have nothing against the values but they don't have the amenities I want. If I wanted to go to WDW every year, I'd have to stay there. If I want the benefits of a deluxe resort, then I just have to wait longer for the next trip and save up. But once I get there, I want to enjoy what I worked hard to pay for. Nothing personal.:) :grouphug:

To the OP: When choosing a resort, I list what's most important to me and go from there. If you really like the Poly pool that much over CR, is there any way that you can change your reservations? The extra expense might also depend on how much time you'd actually be having down time at the hotel. My SIL was initially booked at CR and said she'd like to come visit our pool. Long story longer, she realized she wouldn't really be happy at CR so she looked at her options and ended up switching. I say stay where you'll be happiest!

Thanks for the support - lesson learned. I feel like I came off like some crazy redneck who doesn't want to pay for the nice pool, ha!! I'm glad I thought to ask first - lord knows what kind of chaos could have broken out at the resorts - can you imagine??

I'm sorry you got flamed over such an innocent question :guilty:

I hope you have a nice time on your trip :)

it is funny they encourge you to visit othere resorts and allow you to eat there and shop there why ........$$$$$$$$$$$$......they would let you use the other pools for a fee they just didnt think of that yet.
