When I read about the "pool hopping" perk, I thought "Why would anyone ever want to to do that?". However, we just spent 4 days sweating in the parks in the middle of June. On some days, we would take the bus back to SSR to swim, but often lost alot of time waiting out the June storms. It occurred to me (on the last day) that we could have just brought our suits with us to MK and "hopped" to a nearby monorail hotel to swim for a much needed mid-day respite. If it began to rain, we could have just returned to the parks without losing much time. This would be allowed under the "pool hopping" rule (provided it wasn't one of the few pools that aren't allowed), right or can we only hop to DVC pools?

Anyone else pool hop (legally)?

I remember this being one of the perks. But my understanding was it could only be at DVC resorts and that Stormalong Bay the one at the Yatch Club was off limits(unless staying at YC). We just became members (12/05) so we havent pool hopped yet.

The perk includes all resort pools except Stormalong Bay and the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We haven't pool hopped yet. Personally, I like to shower after swimming because I can't stand the chlorine on me. SO I like to be at my resort to swim. I must say that if I intend to swim a lot during a trip I make sure I pick a resort where I'd be most happy swimming. For instance, BCV is first choice if I really want to have a lot of pool time.

On our trip in May 2006, we hopped over to the BWV pool. :bounce:

My DS (3) loved the whole theme. He loved the slide. There is a small playgroud and a baby pool. It was definitly worth the trip over.

There is a great bar for drinks and snacks, popcorn:: lots of place to sit and a nice place to change and shower afterwards. :thumbsup2

This is exactly what we've done a couple of times when our children were a little younger. Gone to MK and pool hopped to the Polynesian to relax and cool off. They have a very nice zero entry pool with the volcano and slide and a wonderful view of MK.

Almost all the pools have shower facilities in the rest rooms. Most even provide body soap.

We do this occasionally, since we always travel in summer.

Is there any particular protocol to pool hopping? I mean, are we supposed to call and ask first if the pool is busy or are we supposed to show our blue card to a CM? Or, do we just show up and if anyone asks, then flash the blue card?

Just wondering in case we ever want to use this perk.

you are surpose to call the front desk first....

but I just go by the pool - if the place is full forget it - but if only a couple of swimmers are in it - I go for it....

Yes. As noted, SAB and AKL are excluded as area all BC/YC pools. Then there are times during the year when it's totally suspended, usually a week or two around holidays. Then as noted, you call the resort to ask if it's OK, then you go. The tricky part is that almost always the person you talk to when you call hasn't a clue. They're as likely to say it's OK when it's not or more likely, the reverse. And you could correctly to told OK then arrive and they've closed it in the interim and you are asked to leave. Or even if you've been there a while and they decide it's "at capacity" you would be asked to leave.
