We are planning a trip to wdw with extended family staying in different resorts. With the no pool hopping rule, will we be able to bring the kids into our pool with us, even though they are staying in a different resort?

We have often gone to Disney with families all staying in different resorts. We plan one day at a water park together. We usually get there at opening, take in small coolers full of drinks and snacks, find a great home base with a table and have a blast!!

Which resorts are we talking about??? What time of year???

While the rule is no pool hopping, I doubt anybody would blink an eye or even care if you were all staying at values and met at the Pop Century pool during a slow time of the year for a couple hours.

Now trying the same thing at the Beach Club in July with folks staying at the All-Stars you will more than likely be turned away.

Not More than likely, You will not be allowed in. It's gated & you have to use bands......Same as in CGV in Cali.

The others that you technically aren't allowed to use are the pools at AoA, BC quiet pool, Poly, AKV/L, BLT too... Not that you should be hopping here, but I doubt anyone will notice.... Unless it's gated or fenced.

We do this from time-to-time. It depends on what time of year you try to do it as "technically" they do not want you doing this. We typically head to the bars at the pools and do it that way. They tend to not care as much if you are spending money :) it seems, as we have never been asked to show proof of our stay or to leave.

Plus, it's usually myself or just my wife and I doing this. I think it's easier accomplished the fewer people you have attempting this. We don't go in with a huge backpack or anything like that. We usually just stroll in - Grab a drink or two at the bar or some food - Then take a dip in the pool or hot tubs. My wife will lay out for sun, though I rarely do this just to lay out. Get enough sun swimming at home. I do it more to just hang out at the different properties & meet new people on holiday or locals. You'd be surprised how many locals you will run in to at resorts overall and the pool areas.

The truth is that you cannot pool hop. However, you can inquire at the pool if you can bring in a guest. You will be told either yes or no, dependent upon how busy the pool area is.

We had a friend visit us from FW one January. WE asked if her DD could swim with our DGD that day, and were told yes. I would not suggest that you just bring your guests and hope for the best, that could be embarrassing. Good Luck!

There is an official pool hopping thread here on the Dis. You'll find answers there.

The short answer is no. There are much longer reasons as to why it's a no, particularly tailored to each resort. The more coveted the pool, the more fiercely defended it is, particularly at the BC/YC, the Poly, and at AoA.

We've done it at POR and ASMu. The kids went in the pool and adults sat on the side. Not crowded time of year, either. Each family had four paying guests at each resort, and there were four guests in the pool, so we felt okay with it. That was before the pool hopping thing became an issue, though. I think if we were going to do it now, I would only do it at an uncrowded pool. If there's 12 people, and there's only 4 paying to stay at that resort, that's too many in the pool.

It really does not hinge on how may guests pay to stay in the resort vs. how many are in the pool or pool area. It has to do with who is registered at the resort. The lifeguards at the pool are able to determine if the conditions will allow guests to bring guests, not necessarily what it looks like to one of us. As I said before, all it takes is one minute to inquire.

And like I said, it was many years ago, before all this started and not even an issue now. All our kids are older and would never "hang out" with each other and it would be highly unlikely. No reason to call the police.

Great advice everyone! Who did you inquire with? My intent would be for me to take one DGD and my husband to take in the other DGD to the pool. Will definitely read the pool thread.

the lifeguards have the final say.

This is a question perfect for the resorts board since it isn't related to the theme parks. There is even a sticky thread there.

This isn't really a big issue...Unless it's at SAB, or AoA, or even POLY, I'm sure you're not going to have a problem....Is it frowned upon. Yes..... but you are paying to stay on property so, to me not that big a deal..:confused3

I asked the lifeguard on duty, This was at AKL. Good Luck!

Yes, one is paying to stay on property, but one is paying to stay at a specific resort. That doesn't give one access to other resorts' pools unless they are sister resorts (BC/YC or POR/POFQ).

I guess there's something I'm missing in this thread. While we never stayed at multiple resorts -- all family was where we stayed -- and we never even thought of pool or resort hopping, I don't see how you do this. Number one you have to have a way to get into the resort in the first place, unless you're hiking from one to the other. If you aren't registered and don't have the information on your dash, how do you get your car in? Are you using Disney transportation to get to and from resorts? We stayed usually at CBR and had to have a way to get in and out if we used our vehicle. And we didn't take the bus to anywhere but the parks, etc. Just not sure how all this is accomplished at Disney resorts. Just curious. I'm not there and we don't have a large family that goes at the same time. :rainbow:

I realize that there is a rule in place. No hopping. But usually when we travel w/ other families, we try and stay in the same resort. The only time they pool hopped was in 2012 when the majority was staying at BWV, and 1 family decided to join in on the vacation fun, but there was no availability here. So they booked BC. It's not like all of us from ( BWV ) went over to SAB. It was the opposite. They joined all of us over at BWV. The pool wasn't even close to being packed, nor was it an issue.
