We will be at WDW this June with our entire family. Two grandparents, our four children each with spouse and our 10 grandchildren from age three to twelve. The different groups will be staying at BLT, OK, SSR, and BWV. This is all under the membership of my wife and I. I would like to have a pool party type gathering. So, is pool hopping permitted for guest of the member? If so, any advice on which pool and procedure other than checking with the Resort to make sure it is OK?

DVCmember.com seems to be down right now, but I found the following on another site - quoted from the Disney files magazine in 2009 - the policy has not changed from what I know - just the blackout dates so I left those out. Based on this, it doesn't sound like you would have a problem, but with that many people I would definitely be checking with the resort/lifeguard because that's a lot of extra people!

Disney Vacation Club recently updated its policies regarding members "hopping" to other Walt Disney World resort pools. The most noteworthy change is the statement that the Bay Cove Pool at the Contemporary's Bay Lake Tower is excluded from all pool hopping priviledges. Bay Cove Pool joins the pools at Disney's Beach Club Villas and Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas on the restricted list.

You and any Guests staying with you at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Vero Beach Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge are permitted to use other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a Host or Hostess at the Front Desk of the resort hotel you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools.

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Stormalong Bay and the leisure pools at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. In addition, this restriction includes the leisure pools at these two resort hotels. There are no exceptions to this policy.

As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members and any Guests staying with them may not pool hop during the following dates*:

Have you considered renting a cabana at Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon? I know those require admission, so depending on your ticket choices, it could be expensive. But it wouldn't it be great to have family "private" space and all those different water attractions to enjoy as a group?

This is a great idea. The cost is around $250.00 for the day which would be a bargain for that large a party. We wanted to try it but for a party of 2, I couldn't justify it.

Pool hoping is available for all members and their guests while staying on Disney Vacation Club points so it should not be an issue for your group. As for which pool, that is a really good question and I'm sure thre will be a variety of answers. I'd probably go with the one that is easiest to get to. Saratoga Springs is probably a good choice as the bar is right there and the food court/snacks is just up the stairs.

Have a great time.

The use of one of the water parks is a great idea and one I had not considered. I'll look into it. Thanks

I'd suggest the Turtle Pond Pool at OKW as your gathering points. Lots of space. Few people.

To answer your original question there is a technical one and a practical one. Technically only the guests staying in a room with a member on points would be entitled to PH but in this case I doubt they'd ever know or care about that technicality. Due to the capacity issues, it would be risky to try this at one of the busier or smaller pools as you may be denied access or asked to leave. They won't allow you to reserve or rope off an area and it's unlikely that they'll allow that many people extra at the busier feature pools. If you can get everyone at a single resort you'll avoid the variables other than simply crowding.

the CR also has renting of cabana - they are not very big.

only do this if you are staying at BLT.

Your guests staying in your villa with you would be included in the Pool Hopping policy. The other guests that you have "rented" (paid or unpaid) other villas in other resorts to would not be eligible.

I think expecting to bring a group of 20 to a resort pool in June would be too much. The resort pools sometimes have no poolside chairs as it is, and it probably would be difficult to get situated all together. The cabana idea at the waterparks is a much better idea!
