Pool Hopping at HH!

Today, the Beach House pool was very crowded. This was expected, since it was the 4th of July and the resort is full.

CM's at the Beach House did an ID check and about 25 men, women and children vacated the area- freeing up many pool chairs for guests and members of the resort. Most members commented that they wouldn't be at all offended by regular ID checks.

It seems that some locals had "followed" resort guests thru the ID lock and then spread the word to friends on the beach. When they could see that another local "guest" was headed down the ramp- they sent a child down to the gate to open the door and invite their "guests" into the pool area.

These intruders were able to enjoy the programs offered at the pool until the ID check was made. Most suggested that they didn't realize the pool wasn't a "public" pool when challenged.

...and a good time was had by all!

That's the same problem they had at Vero. They've got several checkpoints trying to keep down on those who confuse the public beach with the private pool. ;)

Yeah, right. The beach at HHI only has two places where the public even has access to get to the beach- one north & one south. Disney's beachhouse is just about in the middle. All other access is thru private resorts where one needs a pass. These freeloaders knew exactly what they were doing, they just couldn't think of a better lie.

Of course, I'm aware that Doc used the term "pool hopping" for the fun of it -- as a clever reference to the recent threads about pool hopping at WDW, which often discussed unauthorized pool use by locals and others who weren't entitled to use the WDW resort pools.

But just so there's no misunderstanding, "pool hopping" actually refers to a documented benefit of staying at a DVC resort with DVC points. What happened at Hilton Head was trespassing, not pool hopping. I know that Doc and most DVC members know the difference.

This reply is certainly not a criticism of Doc. It's just my (probably unnecessary) attempt to make sure nobody gets the wrong idea of what pool hopping is.

Doc, if the Beach House pool is crowded, does that mean that the pool at the resort isn't crowded? I'm planning on making reservations for next July 4th @ HH and would like to have a sense of what to expect for my family. Also, where do you have to go to see the fireworks? Thanks, as always, for your help.

Actually, both pools do get crowded at times, but they are manageable without the intruders around.

All of the acivities for the 4th were held at the Beach pool- so there wasn't as much activity at the main pool.

The fireworks are fired from a barge anchored about 20 yards from the resort- so good viewing spots are available from all areas of the resort. Not a problem at all.

They are displayed every Tuesday nite all summer, plus on the 4th. There are lots of activities at the Shelter Cove area- where the shops and restaurants are located- about 100 yards from the resort across the bridge. Lots to do.

Every Tuesday, singer Shannon Tanner performs on the stage at Shelter Cove. A great family program. 3 of the restaurants also have live entertainment each evening.
