OK, can anyone give me the ACTUAL information on pool hoping. Is this an exclusive for us DVC members, {As we have been led to beleive from day one} or can anyone staying at any resort on property hop to any pool on property? There are people on other Disney boards that claim that pool hoping is OK for anybody staying at any Disney resort, not just DVC members. If that is the case, haven't we been misled by them, {Disney} saying that this an exlusive benefit to members?

My understanding is that only DVC members can pool hop and of course there are restricted times, BC/YC/BCV and AKL are prohibited from being hopped to and you need to clear with the front desk as well

Just because a CM said so or people have not been asked to leave does not mean it is ok. I too have followed some of the threads on the resorts board on this subject and can only shake my head at how/what some people will do to justify their actions

thanks

Years ago it was a WDW resort perk. I don't know when that changed but it's been some time. Many do crash the pools however. Officially it's a DVC only perk with the limitations and exceptions noted like BC/YC and AKL as well as blackout times. Plus there's the requirement to call ahead and see if the pool at your destination is "at capacity". And the risk they could close the pool while you're on the way over even after they told you it was OK on the phone.

OK, I know we're supposed to call before we hop over to another pool to be sure it isn't at capacity, but has anyone here ever been turned away or asked to leave after they've arrived? Just wondering...

I know it's happened at least once where someone called ahead then were asked to leave later, not on arrival but after they'd been there an hour or so. I can see the potential for miscommunication at the destination resort, actually both ways. I also know of several instances where somone called and was told no PH when in fact it was open to PH.

I too remember the old days when all WDW resort guests could pool hop. We never did it then and still don't as DVCers. I think it ended as so many moderate hotel rooms were added.

There are occasional exceptions to the rule for resort guests. If a theme pool is closed, guests ther can pool hop to another designated pool. And resorts guests can pool hop to a "sister" pool if I understand correctly.

As already stated, pool hopping used to be allowed for all WDW resorts -- NO MORE. Now it is exclusively a DVC perk -- and only for DVC members staying on points. Even DVC members are not entitled to pool hop if staying on a cash ressie rather than staying on points. When we pool hop we are suppossed to be required to show our resort I.D. which will have "DVC MEMBER" imprinted on it when staying on points. While they don't always check I.D.'s at the pools like they're suppossed to, they do frequently do it and I have on occassion seen people who aren't suppossed to be pool-hopping asked to leave when caught:eek: (they can tell which resort you're actually staying at BTW by the long #'s imprinted on the resort I.D. cards).

The only resorts that can pool hop other than DVC members are between sister resorts POR-R and POFQ can use each others pools or All-Star Movies can use All-STar sports, etc.

No offense to you avid pool hoppers, but I personally hate it. I wish Disney would stop all pool hopping and crashing and make sure people had resort-specific ID before they went into the pool area. If I stay at BWV, I want at least a chance that there be room at the pool for me and my family.

Scootch, I'm not sure what part of my post you don't like? In the first paragraph, I tried to explain my recollection of when pool hopping ended. BTW, I think it was before DVC even was created!

If you don't like the second paragraph, it IS true that when a themed pool at one of the deluxe pools is closed, resort guests are told of a nearby themed pool that can be used. Two examples I remember are during construction of the new volcano pool at the Polynesian, resort guests were told they could use either GF or CR pool (or maybe it was both...don't remember now). A year or so ago when SAB was closed, guests could use the Clown pool at BW.

Peace, Scootch!

That's why they are suppossed to check resort I.D.'s and make sure that you are either a guest of that pools hotel or a DVC member staying on points who's aloud the pool hopping privelge.
We're also suppossed to call ahead to make sure that the pools we hop to are not at capacity and can comfortably accommodate us first along with that hotels guests. They can ask (and have asked on occassion) pool hoppers (who are aloud the privelge) to leave if the pool gets too crowded specifically so that it will not take away from the hotel guests enjoying their own pool. This is also why they have black out dates for pool hopping as well as why we can no longer pool hop to SAB and AKL.

So sorry::yes::

I didn't mean to imply that I didn't like your post -- just meant to add my 2 cents (or maybe I added more like 50 cents:guilty: open mouth - insert foot). I am in complete agreement with you though. We just really enjoy our pool hopping perk, and so many get all upset over us using a perk that we are entitled to enjoy so I guess I get a little over defensive.

sorry for the double post - computer isn't cooperating today:headache:

No worries, Scootch.:D

Thanks everyone, it's just as I thought. There are a lot of other Disney sights, although I have not noticed it here, where people are arrogant and adamant about pool hoping.{general pool hoping, not DVC member hoping} I'm wondering if it is because of these folks that they had to restrict the use of the pools at AKL BCV to those staying on site. Too many unauthorized "pool hopers"?
