We are comparing villas for august, some pools have electric heating and some pools have solar heating. Is there much difference? We have been told electric heating won't be put on in summer as it causes algae. We have used villas with solar heating and found the pool warm even first thing in the morning. I have heard electric heated pools take some getting into due the the water temp. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

what do you mean by solar heating?....do you mean actual solar heating panels?...or just that the pool sits in the sun and heats up?

if you mean solar heating panels, then that should work very nicely.....we have solar water heating in our house and i certainly have HOT water in the morning, even though the last sunlight was many hours earlier....

if you mean, the pool is in the sun and that's what heats it, then i wouldn't bank on that at all....that's how many of the pools are heated in las vegas where you could drop dead from the freezing cold water....

Hi

W regularly stay in a Villa during August. On our first trip at that time, we asked the Management company about pool heating and she told us that we would not need it as the sun would heat the pool. Sure enough she was right. As long as the villa pool is not situated in the shade during the day ( I can't remember which way that is - North I think) you should be fine. It's not like getting into a bath, but it's certainly not cold. personally I think at that time of year the money spent on pool heating could be better spent in the shops/wdw.

I think you will find that solar heating means heated by the sun.

In October time we stayed in a villa that had no heating and it was FREEZING!!! However we stayed in another villa on the gulf coast with solar heating (panels) and the pool was glorious even at midnight. So I think you'll be okay, also with electric heating you will be charged extra $ to switch it on.

Thanks for the replies. The solar heating we had this time was from solar panels on the roof. I think next year with the pool south facing we should be ok.

unless i'm swimming laps, i like a pool to be bathwater warm.....in my experience, only heating (whether by solar panel or electricity) can get it to that temperature..

if it were me, i'd pay for the heating....

when we were at the GF in July, the pool that has the slide (the beach pool i think it's called) wasn't heated and it was FREEZING....and that was in july...
even my kids preferred the boring courtyard pool, since it was nice and cozy warm..

so....as i said, if it were me, i'd pay for heating....but then again, i'm not used to the cold temperatures you all are....so that probably makes a difference...
