Pool heat for rental home - when would you need it?

I'm looking at numerous rental homes and the pool heat is extra and I was just wondering when would one need to heat the pool? We're going Sept 26th to October 4th. Thanks for any help.

you should be fine without pool heat, we didn't normally start heating ours until the beginning of November

if you likw an early morning swim - it might be slight cool - depending upon the overnight temperatures.

other than that I agree you won't need one.

I'm very wimpy about swimming in chilly water, but even I think it should be okay. However, we have a neighbor whose pool is always cool because it's surrounded by leafy trees. You could always ask the owner how much sun the pool gets.

This is a viewpoint I can't agree with. You don't go on vacation that often and when you do, you want it to be perfect. We always pay for pool heat in September when we visit because we enjoy going in the pool in the morning and in the evening. For us, the pool has a chill that we find unbearable if it's not heated. I like my pool water at 88 degrees and above and I won't get in if it's not.

If going in the pool is important to you pay for it. $200 to make sure your vacation is perfect is a small price to pay IMO.

We are going in September aswell (26th to 8thOct) and we are getting pool heat. We are paying so much to go to WDW that I want it to be just right. If the pool is on the cool side, I wouldn't get in.

I heard back from some of the owners and they said we shouldn't need pool heat in September/October. They usually recommend it for November - March but that is related to their pools. We live in Maine and our neighbor's pool doesn't have heat & its warm enough to swim in and our summer's are very short unfortunately.

As far as the extra $200 - We're currently booked at CBR so I'm doing a comparison between onsite and offsite. Right now we're even - if I did the pool heat it would be more expensive. Then add on a car for transportation. Staying offsite would be more expensive in my scenerio. Its not the norm as we're getting a great deal on CBR. These rentals are great - I'd like to try it.

Here is a tip to heat your pool for free. While it won't make it real warm it could help make it bearable. If the home has a garden hose, put it in the pool to fill it with water, then lay it beside the pool with one end in the pool. Start a siphon and allow water to constantly flow through the hose back in to the pool. Ever notice how if you leave a hose laying out and then start it up again the water comes out hot? The sun will warm the water in the hose as is slowly passes through. A black hose will work best. This works best when it is sunny.

If the home as a pool/spa, you may not be able to get the spa heat without the pool heat. Some homes have the capability and/or will separate out pool and spa heat (with cheaper amount for spa heat only).

Also, the direction a pool faces is important; a south facing pool will get sun for most of the day--north the coolest, east the morning sun, etc.

Some homes use a pool cover October through May and utilizing this feature will also keep your pool warmer without heat.

We have a south facing pool and I would say around the time you are going it would heat between 78 and 82 degrees without the heat. However, mornings and evenings would be coolest when you want to use it.

With the pool heat, you have probably 86 to 88 degrees--spa heat 100 to 102degrees, mot likely. However, ask the owner to what temperature they heat the pool.

Otherwise, it depends on preference and how often you will use the pool, as well as time of day, etc.

Thank you so much - that explains why some of the owners say south facing pool vs some that don't say anything. We should probably get pool heat - with the younger kids it would probably make the difference between swimming and not swimming. Never thought about the connection with the spa.

Thanks for posting this question I was wondering this as well, we are looking at a townhouse that has a splash pool 12x12 so I am thinking it may not be needed.
