My DH is about 320 lbs, and 5' 9". He's very worried about fitting on rides. I know there are test seats which is great, but can anyone tell me if they've had problems on certain rides, etc?

Thanks.

A lot of it depends on how he's built. On the Mummy waist and thigh are the key measurements and it will handle about a 52" waist. Hulk and Dueling Dragon are more Chest and height. I am significantly taller than your husband 6'4" and was significantly heavier 355lb the last time I was there. I was able to ride mummy but not Hulk and DD. I would guess it will be a toss up on riding. I also notices the test seat on DD seemed smaller than Hulk. Depending on what way you go around don't assume one will fit just because the other did.

DH is 6'2" and around 300 pounds...huge shoulders and chest. He was able to ride them all although a few were a bit squishy. They have a few "big boy" seats on alot of the rides. On DD for sure because he was pulled out of the line-up a few times to use them, lol. Don't go by the testers, its worth giving the ride a shot anyways.

If he goes on Hulk, tell him to ask the person at the front of the line that he wants the bigger seat. They have a few of them and I always ask for it. I don't know if dueling dragons has bigger seats but there is someone right at the entrance that he can ask.

I think the Mummy ride could be a problem. My husband is 5'9", 220 lbs with a 40" waist and he did not fit well. He has a bit of a belly and the restraint pushed on his diaphram preventing him from catching his breath. He thought he was going to pass out.

He would have been fine keeping the restraint a bit high, but the ride operator pushed it down a few more notches before the train left causing much discomfort during the ride.

On my last visit, I saw a heavy person have to get back out of the car after the restraint did not catch after the ride operators tried to force it down into his belly.

I am Pooh Sized (but on my way downsizing) and Mummy was a problem last trip. I am 5"10 Inches and have a good size belly and back section. They tried to put us in the front seat as there were no people in line and the attendant could not get the bar to latch twice, which is the rule. They had me move to the back row along with DH and it fit, tight fit but fit..Very embarrassing, one of the reasons I am seriously reducing now.... :flower1:

Jimmy Neutron fits ...way too tight..and often feels like it cuts my breathe away when the bar comes down.

Trip in March will not be a problem I will be smaller... :cool1:

I was about 280 at 5'11" I had no problems fitting in... I had to switch seats on Hulk, Dr.Doom, and ICE Dragon... but that was it... the test seats are a great idea....

Last year I was well over 300 and I fit everywhere in WDW as well.....

Last year on the mummy, we saw the cm's help a person out of the back seat (as they could not latch it). I felt terrible for them, as they sat there while the cm (a bit over-dramatically) kept forcing and pushing to latch the safety lock. I feel it is a form of discrimination, and should be assessed a bit better when the ride is under construction. Many persons in this country are "large" (and NOT unhealthy merely because of weight). This person did not appear overweight (IMHO), but bulky and large (very tall and strong). It's not the first time I've witnessed this at US (The Flintstone attraction, and Hulk, etc). One time, a woman was very large chested...and they could not get the shoulder harness to clip. She was small everywhere else *(in proportion to her chest), so Dolly Parton would not be able to ride many of these attractions!!

We too, LOVE Universal. But, as another poster mentioned...we have never witnessed this sort of thing at WDW. It seems Walt and the imagineers figured~in the "size" factor...making it comfy/accessible for people of all shapes, etc. to easily *(and comfortably) fit! Walt's mom was not a small woman, perhaps lending to a better sense of understanding in this matter.

As another poster mentioned, I think forcing a lock to close, and "restrict" someone's breathing is dangerous! With all the discrimination in this country, I believe the attitude towards obesity to be the most shameful. I have an older sister whom battles weight (her entire life), while the rest of us experienced little/no problems. She's not very large, but has to struggle to keep every pound off her frame. It has made me much more cognizant and sympathetic towards the matter.

Everyone pays the same amount for a ticket to US, everyone should be able to ride/enjoy each attraction. If not, perhaps the park should offer REDUCED tickets for people of size (since they are limited/restricted from enjoying every attraction). This makes perfect sense, especially since they charge MORE on some airlines for large people to fly. I believe a 25% reduction in the price of a ticket would work! Maybe then, these parks would GET IT TOGETHER.

Until then....have fun, and enjoy every moment.

In all honesty, I think it has MUCH more to do with the fact that USF and IOA have many more thrill rides than WDW, which require more stringent restraints. I'm sure that many larger guests have to be turned away from Rockin' Roller Coaster which, like Hulk and DD, have over the shoulder restraints which must lock in position. At least Hulk and DD offer larger seats in rows 3 and 6. I don't believe this option is even available on RnRC.

if you would like to ride one of the rides make sure that you are in row 3 or row 6 these are the rows that are larger than the others. If you know to line up in these rows you will save your self any embarressment. I myself am pooh size and knowing to go to row 3 or 6 has allowed me to ride anything that I want.

Figment 22: Actually, RNR at WDW takes people of all sizes, I have friends who weigh more than 320lbs who fit quite comfortably. Hulk and DD are much smaller seats apparently.

Oh well...back to calorie counting for me ;)

I am not pooh size just big. I am 6'5 and weigh 260.

The mummy was the worst of the rides for me. I did manage to "fit" but it was very uncomfortable and I have very wide shoulders. I would not and did not ride it again.

I did not try the Hulk or dueling dragons. I cannot handle the coasters to well.

Maybe someone should build a "plus size" or "BigNtall" amusement park :teeth:
