Hi, all. I've been surfing the boards lately in preperation for our September trip to WDW and always find such great suggestions here at disABILITIES. I wanted to share a story from our trip to Disneyland last year that has stayed with me....thought someone else might like it!
My daughter
who is autistic was 4 and 1/2 when we went to Disneyland. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as sensory issues, etc. She was familiar with some Disney characters, but not "hooked" on any. I figured like her older brothers had she would see the enormous costumed characters and flee, terrified, in the other direction. Well!......She laid eyes on Winnie the Pooh and her entire face LIT UP and she jumped out of the stroller yelling joyously, "Poop!!! Poop!!!" and ran all the way into Pooh's great big arms! HA! It was such an amazing reaction.....first time I've laughed and cried at the very same time! I have a cherished photo of her enfolded in Pooh's hug and just beaming. Oh, it was such an unexpected, magical moment! Needless to say the dear bear is known only as Poop by our family since that day!
I can't wait to see what kind of magic she'll respond to this year!
