Pony rides for little ones at Ft. Wilderness

Our 6 yo will be doing the various special activities at the GF each day and we're looking for fun things to do with the little one (3) during those times each day. I saw Ft. Wilderness has pony rides so I called and she said he could go on them and be fine. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with these.

This whole area of Ft. WIlderness is fun for little ones. My children enjoyed it a lot. There is a whole little "petting zoo" area with goats and some peacocks, near the livery where the big horses live. You can walk around and see the critters and during the day the tame ponies give rides. There was a charge -- I think it was $3. For that fee, though, the child got quite a nice little ride where the lady lead the pony through the paths in that area. My kids thought the pony ride was fun. This area is adjacent to Pioneer Hall so you can get snacks, drinks and meals. Right across is the Trading Post where there are lots of great souvenirs and all sorts of supplies for sale. There is also a playgound with slides and climbing equipment near there.

I have been going to Ft. Wilderness since I was a kid -- since 1974! The area I have described is basically unchanged and it is a kick for me to take my kids to a place I enjoyed so much when I was a kid! If only River Country would come back...

Just an FYI since I spend a lot of time around the horse barn and watch the pony rides.

The parent or adult will need to lead the pony - just an FYI, since there are people who are fearful of this. (no need to worry!)

Note too that your kids may have a tough time seeing the horses in the horse barn, and the horses cannot be petted, for their safety/comfort and yours.

Are there age restrictions for the pony rides? Our DD's will be 6 and 5. They would love to ride the ponies.

The girl I spoke to said up to 80 pounds, she didn't mention ages to me.
