I found this -
Pony rides from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Petting Farm- Cost $3

Is this still true? Do you have to make reservations? This is for the small kids, right? I saw the horseback riding was for ages 9 and up.

Anyone have any pics or experiences with this?

Thanks for any info!

Yes, it's for small kids, I can't remember the weight limit but it's around 50-60 pounds I think. We are talking small ponies here about 9 hands (36 inches).

Note that the adult will need to lead the pony, NOT the CM. I say this because I often see a very nervous mum or grandma leading children around.

A great way to spend $3 to put your child over the moon. Don't miss a visit to the horse barn and the farrier as well, a great place for kids to learn. And check out the horse themed washroom by FW Guest Relations.

Hope that helps!

The petting zoo has actually been drastically reduced due to the ecoli outbreak in Florida petting zoo earlier this year. Just has the ponies and some goats now...

Yikes! 50 pounds? My oldest is over that, but not old enough for the bigger horses. :confused3

We love the pony rides! We have never made reservations...it is not that busy. Then again, we usually go in slow season. Say hello to Tonka and Snowball! They are two of the ponies! Also, look for the white peacock roaming the property.

OK DON'T quote me! I would call and check it out, or maybe do a search on Deb's site. I don't recall the exact size, but again these are very small although hardy ponies. I would think that about 8 years old would be the maximum age.

I was always a tall child, and a pony (14.2 hands) was too small for me by about age 11.

Pony Rides
Hay! Come on down to the farm for a gentle stroll around the stables. These trots for tots (ages 2 and older, with an accompanying adult at the lead) offer the ideal introduction to interacting with our four-legged equine friends.

From Disney's website - as you can see, they don't list a weight, but I know that it was on the signage.

I don't know about a weight requirement. Our granddaughter did this when she was five and it was a highlight for her. Very gentle walk. Her mother led the pony around. Don't wear open toed shoes. No reservation needed at all.

My girls will be 5 and 8 when we go. I think my oldest is around 50 pounds or so. I think this sounds great. My youngest asked me if she could ride a pony when we go. Where she got this from I don't know. I know the bigger horses would scare my oldest. My cousins have horses and tried to put her up on one once and she flipped. They were really big, though.

We'll be at VWL. I'm assuming we should just take the boat over? How far are the ponies from the dock?

About a 5 minute walk from the dock, straight up the path, and then to your left.

Don't forget to stop and look for the lawnmower tree near the playground just off the dock.... :goodvibes

My boys just rode the ponies last week. It was $3 each for children under 80 pounds. My boys both rode Candy the pony. I had to lead the pony around the petting zoo area on a marked trail. The boys (2 and 3 yrs.) really liked it.
