We leave next Tuesday, and this will be only our second visit during summer as we usually travel to WDW in May, October, and November. Should we consider packing our ponchos, or just duck indoors if it rains. I just can't imagine wearing those ponchos in the humid hot weather.

last year i saw on tv while at WDW(it was trivia on local tv morning show) that it rain every day during the summer at least 15 minutes. you could bring the lite cheap ponchos incase you have no where close to run for cover.

We brought the cheap-o $1 Store ponchos. They are VERY thin but they did not get too hot. We used them 3 of the 6 days we were at parks. It rained for at least 15 minutes almost every day, and on some days it then stopped, but one day it rained lightly from about 5 pm until 9:30 or so (we were at EPCOT and watched Illuminations with relatively low crowds b/c of the drizzle). A couple of times, we just stayed in a shop for a fw minutes and the rian cleared up; if it lasted more than 15 minutes or so, we busted out the ponchos.
Having lived in Ft. Lauderdale, it is true that it rains almost every day in the summer, usually in the afternoon, but the storms are generally short. I advocate bringing the cheap-o ponchos. Not only are they not as heavy to wear, but they are not too heavy to carry around the park until the rain starts.

I have two sets of the cheapos packed. At the end of a park day, if we've used them, we just toss them out.

I just got back from WDW on Tuesday. I bought the ponchos from the Dollar Store, one for each day. We didn't need them at all, got lucky I guess. We had a 5 minute sprinkle one day, and a shower for about 1/2 hour another. But that is not the norm. I would bring them for sure. Ya never know when you'll need them.

I bought cheap Target ponchos for our September trip. I felt like a basted turkey. This time I'm bringing umbrellas.

I also buy the clear $1 ponchos that we just throw away later.. They do tend to get a bit sticky if you wear them a while but we normally dont..I hate that feeling tho when your hot and wet and sticky.. Blech!

I'm shocked that nobody is acknowledging the magical powers of ponchos. Don't you know that if you drag a poncho around all day, it won't rain? :sunny:

I'd rather be soaked by the cooling rain than sweat like crazy inside that poncho
In October when we went, In all but the heavy rains, I found myself equally wet whether I wore it or not. And in those heaviest of rains, you need to get under cover anyway because the poncho doesn't protect your shoes.

Yes, but just forget that poncho once and you'll get poured on!
The ponchos are great to have, even in August, when it's too hot to wear them. After a rain, when you might want to sit on a wooden seat that's still wet (the metal ones dry out pretty fast), or sit on the grass, the ponchos come in real handy to protect yourself from the dreaded "wet butt".
