With all the rain they have been having I just have to ask how does one where a poncho when it is 90 degrees? I can't imagine how hot and uncomfortable it must be to walk around in a plastic rain poncho for a majority of the day.

Also, what exactly do you do with the wet poncho when it stops raining?

I bought some ponchos in preparation for our trip and made the mistake of taking them out of the bag and now I have yet to figure out how to fold them back up to fit back in the bag

I'm hoping that by preparing for rain, we will only get the brief afternoon showers :D

We have been many times in summer when it was hot and wore them and they were not too bad...We get the cheap type that are clear from Dollar Tree 2 for $1 and end of day or when it clears up for good we just toss them in the trash or give them to someone else. They also make great ground covers when it has rained and you do not want to sit on a very damp curb...

I also have a Universal boughten blue poncho I bought last year in a real monsoon there...it had snaps on the arms and it was not that hot..

Wearing a poncho beats carrying an umbrella or being damp and cold inside attractions the rest of the day..

I even have a suggestion for how to get the ponchos back in the cases or whatever...do not even try!! Get some baggies for sandwiches or the next storage size up if the ponchos are bigger, fold them up and put them in the baggies. Make sure the baggies are the snap shut type..they make great poncho holders for the ones bought at Dollar Tree if anyone is wondering how to carry them in a back pack or fanny pack without them unfolding. Hope this helps some...

I thought this thread was comments on how hot one would look in a pncho...:p I just had to look. I was hoping for pics as I find ponchos very sexy:jester:

LOL!! :jester:

To the OP--yes, they're hot and uncomfortable, but I agree with Blueberry that it's worth it to avoid feeling damp and cold in attractions later on. We took the 2-for-a-dollar Dollar Tree ones and they worked well. Also took a Coleman yellow poncho and it was a bit more comfortable as it didn't cling to the skin so much.

you can usually shake most of the wet off of them, and fold them up inside out and shove them in your back pack, but I too like blueberrys idea of putting them in a zip lock bag.

They are a little unconfortable, the sleeves always seem to get in the way LOL.

One time I could not find the sleeve of the thing and in the meantime I was getting soaked so I just ripped it down the side.... Hey it worked LOL

This is very funny PhotobearSam..how hot you look in a poncho..had a good laugh over it..:)

The ziplock bags work for cheap poncho carrying cases and you can get them back in, but it not too easy to do..We just trash ours as they are so cheap or give them to someone else, You can hang them to dry in your hotel bathroom and they do generally dry overnight, then refold to wear again. However, they are never as neat and flat as when they are new of course, but very reusuable if you want to do that, not just a one wear thing unless you want them to be...

One warning on the cheap throw away ponchos, I recommend that you get clear plastic only, the colored ones that have an orange, yellow or blue tint can have the color run on your clothes or face...My DD when she was young had a orange tinted cheap poncho on one evening. When we got in the car, my two teenage DS were laughing and hooting so loud we had to figure out what was going on...my DD had orange arms and an orange face from the running color from the poncho and her shirt was ruined from the color. ONLY use clear color cheap ponchos unless you want to be rainbow colored...:)

For a stroller, use either a proper stroller cover (available at a nursery-goods store) or a clear shower curtain with some big binder clips to hold it in place. Just leave the cover on the stroller at all times, pleated back and draped behind the hood. (It is a good idea to drop the cover over the stroller whenever you leave it parked for an indoor ride; rain often appears without much warning in central Florida, you could return to a drenched stroller.)

You can use an adult-size poncho over a stroller in a pinch, but it doesn't work that well, because the hood opening will usually let water seep in and down onto the seat.

A child in a stroller (even with a cover) should have a poncho of his own if he is walking at all. A child's poncho is normally sized to fit a child about 7-9 yrs. old; you should get a scissors and cut the length down for a younger child, otherwise, it's a trip hazard.

I carry our ponchos in a ripstop drawstring bag, I bought it in the camping section at Wally World.

Hi I second on buying the thin clear ponchos - 99 cents I think at walmart, in the camping section. I brought both those kind & also the heavier blue ones for myself/kids. Never used the bigger ones. I didn't want to lug them around when it came down to it. (They aren't that big but when you have several of them to tote & only one mom...) But I did see families just wearing them right as they entered the monorail & thought to myself dang maybe we could have done that -but then, what do I do with them if it stops raining. They are kinda bulky & I am the only one with a fanny pack..the kids just put the smaller poncho in their pockets.

Anyway the thinner clear ones never ripped, & they are better than an umbrella I think, as if you only have an umbrella, your legs & arms can still get wet when the wind throws the rain sideways..plus, you need a backpack to stow them when not in use..I also recommend wearing a baseball cap to keep the rain off your face - just throw the hood over the top of your cap.
Keep a good sense of humor. It is fun to watch what a bit of water does to people at the parks. It's not like we are going to melt away or anything....(maybe it would be a nice benefit though) Florida headlines -
"SLIMMING RAIN drawns more visitors to Orlando"

OH yeah one tip: I carried a small digital camera in my fanny bag. I kept it in a ziplock baggie in case the rain (or wet ride) reached & soaked through my fanny bag.

I can't imagine wearing those ponchos in the heat. We bring them just in case, but so far have always opted for getting soaked and air drying instead of sweltering. JMHO :)

We end up wearing those Mickey ponchos every August and we are never sweltering. In fact I think it gets a bit chilly when it rains in the afternoon so I look forward to throwing on one of those not so attractive yellow ponchos. You walk around all day in the hot sun until the clouds come then you get wet and brrrrrr. We had to turn off the A/C in our room a few times when we got back because we were so wet & cold....and we come from N.E. so we are not thin-blooded like some of those southerners! ;)
