What do you think- poncho or umbrella. My DH has two Columbia lightweight rain jackets that we could bring or we could use the garbage bag type ponchos or umbrellas.
Im thinking the Columbia jackets might be too hot.
I really hope I wont have to use any rain gear too much!

We have allways used ponchos we had to use them last sat over at MK.
I saw about 15 to 20 umbrellas being used but they looked to be more in the way when trying to walk in and out of crowds.

We are going back next fri & sat hope the rain will hold off for us this time.

The Columbia jackets I think would be to hot our ponchos were hot for me after about 40 to 60 min.

Ron.

I would use the poncos and waterproof sandals or flip flops. You could pick up poncos before you go. The poncos could be folded back up put in a back pack or fanny pack for reuse.

we always use ponchos too. if we dont need them do to rain, then we use them for kali river rapids. only been in dec, jan, feb so its been a little cooler. :teeth:

We always use ponchos. Umbrellas seem like too much of a hassle. :)

We always use ponchos as well, however, I always still get water in my face. I suggest a baseball cap or hat as well!

ponchos and a hat. i hate umbrellas in crowded places, seems to always either be in some elss way or caught on something.

My vote is for ponchos! If the parks are busy you could kill someone with a bumbershoot~! ::yes::

Here's another vote for ponchos. Umbrellas are a pain because everytime you go in and out of buildings you have to open and close them. Plus, you have to always worry about hitting other guests with them. Yep.....we dig the ponchos!!!

I vote for ponchos and you could go two ways with those. I've used the heavy duty ones over and over, but I carry the garbage bag, dollar store ones around when rain is not so certain in the forecast.

The thin ones are very hard to open with wet hands, tear easily, blow around easily (protecting less) and are almost impossible to reuse so I think of them as disposable.

The thicker ones lay nicer, protect more, are more likely to be swiped if you leave it outside an attraction (so put your name on it with a sharpie) but are much more bulky especially after the first use. They are reusable but carrying them around wet is no fun and I've had to drape them around my hotel room dripping.

Just some things to think about. I'm bringing thicker ones this trip because it is rainier in August but in December I'll bring a few of the dollar ones. I still have some left over from May.

I have brought an umbrella but it was distracting to try to remember it.

If you choose an umbrella be prepared to close it at any outdoor show. When we were there a couple of weeks ago some people had umbrellas up before Fantasmic and an announcer came on and told everyone to put them down. Ponchos are what we opt for.

Easy to carry in your bag. Like MaryKatesMom, we sometimes use the Disney ones if we expect long term rain. We also carry the ones from Dollar Store (2/$1). If we use at the end of the day we throw away.

While people under the umbrellas may be staying dry - the water rolling off their umbrellas is getting everyone around them wet :(

I vote for the ponchos. They are lightweight, scrunching easily into the fannypack or backpack without taking up too much space. They keep your hands free, so you can push a stroller or other's hands. Ponchos can also serve you well during water rides, such as Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids if you aren't in the mood to get wet that day. Or as a dry place to sit on a wet bench or curb.

I want to say it depends. My friend and I were there on a non busy time. I carried one of the dollar store ponchos in my fanny pack, she carried one of the half weight umbrellas in her back pack. I opted to tough it out when there was only a few minute drizzle. Opening those ponchos are a pain and then folding them back up is another story. She on the other hand popped her umbrella up for the few minutes it rained and when it stopped she folded it up and back into it's water proof carrying bag. Once it really started raining, my poncho was much better then her umbrella.
