Pardon the ignorance, but can somebody please explain just exactly what these items are? I'm embarrassed that I have to even ask this:blush:, but I know my fellow DISers will give me all of the details on these treats!

Thanks in advance!

Yummmmmmmmmm pommes frites is pretty much the french words for French Fries...and beignets...is fried dough covered with powdered sugar...sooooooooo gooooooood:thumbsup2

Thanks!

Are the beignets comparable to a funnel cake?

The ones at Disney are little Mickey-shaped "donuts" I guess would be the best way to describe them to someone who never had them before, but they taste like funnel cake. Do a Google image search of "Care Orleans", "beignets" and you'll see them!

No, think fluffy doughnut holes!

They are in the fry bread food group. But light and puffy, usually.

As for the potatoes. in French, potatoes are pommes de terre which literally means apples of the earth. I think.

And fried is frit.

So pommes frites are fried potatoes, though commonly what we would call french fries, or the Brits would call chips.

:)The pommes frites there are like garlic fries with parmesan cheese on them. They are very yummy! I read about them and the beignets on here, and we had both on our last trip.......It's so worth it to go to Cafe Orleans for these!

The fries also come w/ some sort of delicious dipping sauce. Remoulade or something.

Behold - beignets and Pommes Frites!

The MC is the meat version.

The beignets at RB Jazz Express in DTD are really good. I looked for a picture but can't find one on this computer. The are made like the ones in New Orleans-rectangular, puffy, hot, and served in a bag with powdered sugar-shake the bag before eating.:goodvibes

The pomme frites at Cafe Orleans are very good.

Oooh, I'll have to try them from Jazz Express. I had the ones at Cafe Orleans and while they were good, as someone who has had beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans many times, they left something to be desired! Maybe the ones in DTD are closer.
