My DS loves pool slides - but does not like tunnels on slides. I would love to stay at the Poly.

Please describe the Poly's volcano pool slide.

Thank you to all you Poly experts :wizard:

There is definitely a tunnel on the Poly slide. We love it, but your son may not.

Have fun!

Yes, the Poly's volcano slide is a tunnel. When you climb into the opening, you cannot see where it ends, nor can you look up and see ski. It has 4 bends in it, where you slide to the right a bit, then the left, right, left, and then woosh, into the daylight and water. It is illuminated, with a slight red glow to represent the inside of a volcano. The inside is high enough that many children can ride sitting up (DH and I had to lean back, and many older children rode down flat on their backs for the added speed).

My DD7 and DS7 are not thrilled-seekers by any means and aren't particularly thrilled with dark rides, and they loved loved loved this slide! However, you know your DS best, and I'd say if he doesn't like the Chuck E. Cheese or MacDonalds-type closed/tunnel slides, then this might be a no-go for him.

It's one person at a time on the volcano slide, so although you can ride directly before or after him, you can't together.

The above descriptions are accurate. I just want to add that this is one of the faster resort slides that we've been on. Also, I have 3 kids, 2 love water slides, the other is not a big fan, he also isn't a fan of real dark rides - he likes to see what's coming. I made a deal with him (he was 8 at the time) that if he tried it once, I would buy him a pin of his choice. Well he worked up the nerve, went on it and guess what? He *loved* it. The only problem I had after that was getting him off the slide!

DS13 is looking forward to trying the volcano pool/slide in August

My kids loved the volcano slide, but you may not want to try it if there could be a problem. An alternative could be staying at Coronado Springs. Now don't get me wrong, CSR can't compete with the amenities and location of Poly. Besides being easier on your wallet, I feel it is a VERY nice place to stay: it is close to AK, MGM, Epcot and BB; and the pool and play areas are great. The Jaguar slide is actually longer than the volcano slide, and it is open all of the way down.

The Poly slide is fantastic, but can be scary for very young kids. It is a relatively dark tunnel for more than 3/4 of the slide. You also can't go down 2 at a time meaning the little one will have to brave it alone. Good luck. Still, this is one of the best themed slides/pools in all of WDW IMHO.

I talked my DD8 into going on the slide. I may be a while before she does that again... I was a little suprised by the reaction. She handled the Barnstormer while I was shot for a few hours and she is pretty brave when it comes to water/swimming. :confused3

Both of my girls hated this slide. To steep, fast and dark for them. Neither are thrill seekers. They both enjoyed the slide at AKL much much better. If you put a life vest on him and see if he'll go down once like that it may not be so bad. You come out of the tube pretty fast and hit the water and sink. That part was traumatic on my dd 5!
