Ok, I love the Poly but as I read many posts here I don't understand the connection?? (I also grew up watching them -probably my favorite show as a kid) The only thing I can think of is the stairs in the GCH????

Maybe its all the Tiki statues? I watched a lot of Brady Bunch reruns and this is the only link I really saw at the Poly. :goodvibes

The Bradys went to Hawaii on vacation!

I really think that people are talking about the overall 70s decor -- not that I think the Poly is dated, I don't. But that Tiki/Hawaiian/dark furnishings & paneling type decor WAS popular in the 70s. The Poly maintains that theming and to a lot of people they connect that with the 70s.

Personally, I love it and don't think it means it's out of date -- it's a "theme" and many people don't seem to get that.

I absolutely hate the Polynesian Resort/Brady Bunch connection. I don’t get it, I don’t see it, and I did not like the Brady Bunch. I think it is just a way for some people to P-off Poly fans. If I ever accidently ingest poison, I need to watch ‘The Brady’s Go To Hawaii’ ASAP!!!

In the Brady bunch, they go to Hawaii because Mike had some "work" there that seemed to mainly consist of delivering architectural drawings.. (haha) Of course those got lost at some point..

Anyway.. Greg Brady finds a tiki idol on the beach and it turns out its cursed.. and then somehow Vincent Price and a cave became involved.

It all made sense in the 70's..

Oh-I remember that episode-my all time favorite!!!!:hippie:-But really, I just don't see the connection....:confused3

At one point - the Poly had a lot of avacado green.. shag carpets and some of the lobby furniture looked pretty much exactly like the BBunch living room stuff..

This was a few years ago.. Add to that.. all the Tiki stuff around Poly..

And I could SO see Cindy, Jan and Marcia, Bobby, Greg and Peter descending that staircase in the lobby..

haha

Okay, judging by some of the photos I've seen of Poly rooms in the 70's, this makes PERFECT sense! :rotfl: Perfect kitsch!

And wasn't a tarantula involved at some point?

The Poly has reminded me of the BB since I first saw it in 1998. It's the brown paneling for sure.

And I'm not hatin' on the Poly lovers...it's my favorite resort!

It is the brown dark wood work which is actually true to the Polynesian theme, people expect bright colors for the tropics but that is more of a Caribbean theme than Polynesian.

I agree - I see the connection but I think of it in a wonderful way. Life was so great and simple in the 70's. Dad was my hero (still is) and is the reason I love Disney and the Poly so much.

Plus, I always thought the Brady Bunch house was cool and beautiful and I'm guessing by this point they'd have to have updated it also, like they've done with the Poly.

I had no idea that other people also think "Brady Bunch" when they think of the Poly so I had to open this thread when I saw it. Nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks that and I've never even been there! I really want to like it because it has so many great qualities but when DH and I look at the pictures of the outside of the buildings, it totally turns us off and we just think 70s Brady Bunch.

We meant to stop by there on our last trip to see it in person but never had the chance. I agree that the dark wood and the Hawaii episode are probably the reasons for the connection.

The interior of the house was a soundstage on Stage 5 at Paramount Studios, and only in the years 1969 to 1974. The owners erected an iron fence around the front yard. Sadly too many idiots thought it was cool to peek through the windows thinking they would see the Brady's living room.

I used to live in Los Angeles and I hunted down the Brady Bunch house (the original) on Dilling Street in North Hollywood, my buddy Mike lived just around the corner ironically enough.

The interior is of course NOTHING like the TV show. From the street, you can plainly see the kitchen is actually where 'Mikes Study' was on the show.

The driveway and backyard however were quite faithful to the set used on the show.

Another dream busted!!! :rotfl:

Don't even get me started on the Happy Days house... !! ;)
