Polynesian question

Why were the Polynesian buildings built without second floor balconies? Are second floor rooms less expensive since they don't have balconies? This was our first visit to 'Ohana in the daylight and the first time I noticed this. Doesn't make sense to me that you would put patios on the first floor and balconies on the third floor, but not the second.

Apparently that is a more authentic style for longhouses. The newer buildings have balconies because that's what customers wanted.

The second floor is not cheaper. No balconies on the second floor is apparently more authentic to Polynesian design.

We always request a 3rd floor room, that way we are assured of getting a balcony. If you are paying the same you might as well get one!

It is a cultural supersition about things hanging over your head. . .I don't recall the exact nature of the belief, but that's the gist of it. Apparently, that custom wasn't adhered to in later designs because all of the later added longhouses have balconies on 2 and 3.

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in 1/2005 in a Lagoon View room. From this thread I see I should request a 3rd floor room. What other requests should I try for? As in, what building for best view of fireworks/MK? Thanks.:wave2:

I too requested a balcony room last year and ended up with one of those fake balconies. I love the Polynesian. It's a beautiful resort, but I don't like the chance of getting one of those rooms with the fake balconies.
