Polynesian Owners Thread/FAQ

The longer there's radio silence regarding Spirit of Aloha the more it's starting to look like it's permanently closed. Prime spot for Poly DVC expansion to finally fit some bigger units. With Contemporary committing to refurbishing the garden view rooms (very soon if not already started) BLT2 rumors are dead for a while. Poly feels like WDW DVC's next "thing" until there's a market to try something on the Reflections site. Let's go!!!
I hope not - I worry for those who own at VGF and what will happen to the existing units when 2 million points hit the market. While I would love a one or two bedroom option (that’s not a bungalow) at Polynesian, I suspect most families that would buy at Polynesian would do it for access to the studios, and I love that we have ample availability whenever we want with little worry about units disappearing!

I feel conflicted about this. We often travel with grandparents and end up getting two studios, or (for not too much more) a 2BR at CCV. It'd be nice to have the option to get a 2BR at the Poly.

Of course, a 2BR at the Poly would likely be much more expensive than at CCV...

I have a decent chunk of points so I for one would probably make use of a 1bdrm if it existed at Poly. But I do hear the fears that the new points flooding the market would eat up studios. Then again...that fear may be unfounded given the minimal impact of the ridiculous number of points the bungalows add to the pool.

I would sell my BLT and SSR (but keep BWV) to buy Poly if they had proper 1 and 2 bedroom villas. However, I wouldn't buy at Poly for some new version of a 'resort' 1 or 2 bedroom with less than the current standard of amenities and conveniences found in 1 and 2 bedroom villas.

That's a good point - the bungalows added 1.1M points to the system. So maybe the 1bedroom and 2 bedrooms wouldn't be so bad?

And while not likely, Disney could fix the fact that the Bungalows are rarely at capacity by underselling the point. That is to say you make a building that houses enough rooms to eat 1.5 million points but only sell 1 million. Then you redistribute the per night cost per point so that the 1bdrm and 2bdrm are comparable with say a BLT and the Bungalows could be lowered to a slightly more approachable cost. But that's pipe dreams.

There were rumors pre-DVC and reignited by the Disney Dish podcast last year that they were considering building a tower much like the original concept art for the resort.

It'd be interesting. Either way, at least Disney is still willing to invest in the Polynesian.

I've been thinking this is what will happen, too, and I hope it does (so maybe it's just wishful thinking). I'm also hoping for signature dining, perhaps on the top floor of a new DVC building with a nice fireworks view. Is there room for another pool, too, or is that a bridge too far?

I believe the saying is, "If you can dream it than you can do it"! I would think, though, that Disney would move forward with Reflections first before they would change route and go with a new build at Polynesian?

In case anyone is curious about buying Polyesian direct, attached are the latest pricing incentives. I’m looking to add on and wanted to see what they had to offer. 6444484025BA70-E660-4B72-BEE5-56EC9E38E094.png

There's a ton of room on that side of the resort, more if they decide a water retention pond somewhere else. I don't know the resort room numbers to have an opinion on a pool other than at best I'd imagine a small "quiet" pool at best and they may punt on that considering minimum quiet pool usage at other resorts. (We love the quiet pools ourselves). Parking is a complication and would need to be prioritized. The strip is a little narrow so parking may need to be near the wedding pavilion and health club.

Another challenge is not breaking Polynesian Resort architecture by limiting new construction to 3 floors but still fitting enough rooms to be worthwhile. Also, longhouses are straight (not L shaped, curved to lake, etc) and that creates other challenges.

Polynesian is a layup and Chapek hasn't shown that he's much of a risk taker. They're shown a recent desire or easier sales (see VGF anf Disneyland Hotel) with Riviera sales being mixed despite being a great resort. VGF in particular is a good example of how Disney wants to roll into existing associations to (1) sell points for less than 50 years and (2) kick down the road the newer restrictions on resales that came with Riviera. There's some concept art from a few years ago of what a porte cochere on a new Poly building would look like and it's pretty "on point" tonwhat we've seen in renovations the last 10 years.

Walt’s original idea was for a 12 story building. I have seen one piece of original concept art that showed the 12 story building with the current longhouses spreading out from it. I do not think Disney will hesitate in the least to construct a building that is taller than 3 stories.

All Poly DVC Studios have had the soft refurb. Some studios were still waiting for the Murphy beds to be installed (Fall 2021) but since there have been no recent pictures of sofa beds, good bet that all Murphy beds have been installed.

About to put in my room request and we really are hoping for a Murphy Bed. I stayed at Tokelau in December and no murphy bed. Which buildings are fully complete with murphy beds?

....but if you want to play it safe, pick Pago Pago since it was the first building to be refurbished
