Polynesian or Copper?

We are total newbies at this so please forgive me if I ask a dumb question. We have looked at and weighed all the advantages and disadvantages of DVC ownership but we cannot decided rather to go with the Polynesian or Copper Creek? They really are pushing the Polonisian but I'm just not sure. Any advice or input would be great. Thanks in advance.

My advice is that you buy resale, save a few thousand dollars and choose your home resort from all of the DVC resorts, not just the ones that Disney is currently pushing.

Don't buy because a salesman is pushing something. If you have time to ask questions of this board, you have time to do some research.

Does DVC work for you? Yearly or every other year trip to a DVC property. Can you plan 7-11 months in advance normally?

Direct or Resale? You can save a lot going Resale but there are lost perks (probably worth the savings).

What DVC property best for you? Cheapest, most convenient to a particular park, extras (giraffes out your window in the morning)?

Poly only has studios and bungalows. No one bedroom option. We went resale but that would have been a dealbreaker for us. Love Poly but need space!

Quite a bit. You can book your home resort at 11 months, and when you switch at 7 months it's to whatever if left when others have booked home resorts and/or switch.

If you need anything but a studio, Poly is a bad buy. If you need a studio that sleeps 5, Copper Creek is a bad buy. If you want to stay at WDW from October-marathon, you will be staying where you buy most of the time, or switching to Saratoga, which is ridiculous with high-cost direct points.

Or, if you actually want to stay elsewhere, you should buy elsewhere by researching the resale market and not just take what the salesperson is pushing.

If you don't mind never getting any thing BUT your home resort, it doesn't matter. Just be sure you pick a home resort where you want to stay. It is getting much more difficult to book a NON-home resort at the 7 month mark. If you can't book 7-11 months ahead, it really doesn't matter about your home resort. At 7 months ahead all resort are "home resorts", you can book any of them, that is those that still have availability.

During certain times of the year, having the right home resort can mean the difference in whether you get a reservation at your preferred resort, or not.

It also impacts the maintenance fees you'll pay every year. Since your maintenance fees reflect your share of the operating costs for your home resort, each resort's fees are different. Some are higher than others.

The length of time you will own also varies by resort. For instance, the contract end date for Boulder Ridge Villas is 2042. For Polynesian Villas, it's 2066.

About the same as does it really matter if you stay on property or off site. You will find a favorite resort, spend more time there and be upset when it's not available.

My advice is to first weigh the pros and cons of buying direct and buying a resale. Do some research. In most cases buying resale is a much better option for most families. Disney has tried to take away some of the perks of buying resale, but imo, doesn't even come close to justify the cost difference.

This is one of the reasons I didn't buy there. We have a trip planned there in June, and I can never spell it right. So, glad I didn't buy there. Beach Club is so much easier to spell.

Yes, I hate auto correct. The real reason we didn't go with PVB is because they didn't have 1 bedrooms. We are a family of 4 and a studio is just too tight for us. I didn't want that as our home resort, knowing that I couldn't get a 1 bedroom when we needed it. DH isn't going on our next trip, so I figured we could try it out. I am sure that we will love.

Do a search on threads complaining about the lack of 7-month availability at some resorts and you should get a sense of how much home resort priority really matters. I am not trying to bash anyone in particular, but some of those "complaints" really stem from the lack of understanding of how DVC works, including home resort priority. By the way, as others have already pointed out, you have more choices than just PBV and CCV if you are willing to put in the time and effort for a resale purchase. You can even purchase some of the "sold out" resorts direct through DVD if you really want to for some reason.

Plus busy times for DVC are not the same as busy times for hotels. From mid-Sept to after the Marathon in January, it can be hard to book a non-home resort at seven months out. Any time Disney Running has a race, it can be hard to book at seven months out.

It sounds like the salesman successfully sold you on the concept of DVC, so now is the time for you to learn about the program. You will find that you have many more decisions to make other than just Poly or Copper Creek. Do yourself a favor and take the time to learn about the nuts and bolts of the program, and not just the Pixie Dust that the salesperson showed you. You'll be glad you did.

Definitely look in to resale if either one of those don't interest you at all. Not only would resale save you money but you buy in to a home that you will love and have the 11 month window booking advantage!

I bought in to Poly because its my #1 all time favorite resort (above Animal Kingdom Lodge which sits at my #2 lol) and it's just 2 of us so the studios work perfect for me. I do hope one day they will add 1 & 2 bedrooms though.
