I have spoken with so many people at Disney as well as at the Poly directly, and I get so many different answers. How long does it take on the monorail to get to MK and Epcot. I'm hearing 20 miniutes to MK and 45 to Epcot. Is that right? If so, is the monorail system really that much faster? If so, where is the best place to stay at the Poly? I will have a garden view room, so where is a better location within the resort in relation to getting to the monorail? Can you really walk to the GF and the TTC as well? I just can not decide between the Contemporary (walk to MK), Poly (monorail and nice pool), and BC (beach/pool/appeal). Is the monorail really that much better than the bus system from the BC?

Yes, the monorail IS much better. Also, more comfortable, and seems to run more often. That's our experience--but we always go during low season. I would say the ride to MK is more like 10 minutes, and Epcot a little longer. From the Poly, you could just walk to the TTC and hop the monorail to Epcot, and then you're looking at 15 minutes or so. But it's a fun ride with great scenery.

If you plan to walk to the TTC, the closest buildings are Tahiti and Rapa Nui. The best garden view rooms, according to the Unofficial Guide, are on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Tokelau, which get sideways views of the water and fireworks.

it DEFINATELY does not take twenty min to get form Poly to MK on the monorail. it takes 5 TOPS IMO.

There is a website- it's Tikiman's-Very well known for his in-depth knowledge of the Polynesian Resort.

However, he has had a high volume month, and its down right now- but keep checking back. It has everything you ever wanted to know about the Polynesian.

If you do a google for Tikiman 2001 you will find it... I cant include the link here.

Have a great time!

we just stayed at Poly for Christmas and it took 5-10 to get to MK b/c you stop at GF first, but to go to epcot, you stop at GF, MK, CR, and then TTC where you have to switch monorails..so yes it takes much longer to go to Epcot! I agree...go to tikimans website, it is awesome!! depends where your room is, you might prefer to walk from the poly to the ttc on the trail ;)

We stayed at the Poly this past December
We were in the tokelau building, 2nd floor garden view facing the quiet pool. At night you could see the MK fireworks from a sideways view off the balcony. I loved this room: quiet at night, beautiful view and convenient to both main house and TTC. The quiet pool was wonderful for the kids 1/2 hr dip before dinner, The Volcano pool was wonderful on arrival day--kids spent 4 to 5 hrs swimming. We only took the resort monorail once--when we went to contemporary for dinner. We liked to get to the parks early in the morning and the TTC was only 6-7 min walk from our longhouse. We never had longer than a 5min wait for the monorail and we were at MK in 5 minutes. TTC to epcot only took us 8 minutes--My hubby timed us. The monorail was so convenient, especially at the end of the day when the kids were whining and tired.
Ohana's character breakfast was wonderful--served family style--plenty of time with characters and we had our best meal--dinner at Kona--excellent food.

We loved the Poly--we're going back again this December.

Just back from spending 1/24 - 1/27 at the Poly & we were in a garden view room in Tahiti...I can tell you with absolute certainty (as I did it numerous times during the weekend) that it does not take 20 minutes on the Monorail from the Poly to MK. There are only 5 stops on that resort circuit (in this order: TTC, Poly, GF, MK, Contemporary & then back to TTC) and it takes less than 25 minutes for the whole round trip.

From our longhouse, it was actually shorter to walk to TTC than it was to go back to the GCH of the Poly to catch the monorail...not even a 2 minute walk to TTC vs a 5+ min walk to the Poly mono stop. We were joking that it would actually be faster to walk from Tahiti to TTC & take the monorail from TTC to the Poly than it would be to walk directly from Tahiti to the GCH.

As for the trip to Epcot, I didn't time that specifically (as DW & I were just happy to be leaving the kids w/DMom & having some time to ourselves), but I would estimate it at only 10-15 minutes tops to actually walk from Tahiti to TTC & catch the monorail from there to Epcot.

In short, it's definitely someplace we'd stay again (although I just finished booking our next trip for GF, since we like to vary where we stay)...
