So I’ve been trying to put together a few trips before the end of our use year and I’ve been stalking the RAT far too much lately and I noticed something strange (at least I think it is for Covid times). Poly has been super easy to get pretty much all year but sometime between this morning and now most of the month of May and June became unavailable in ALL villa categories for almost the exact same dates. It seemed really strange to me. What do you think is going on? Do you think it’s another system quirk like what we saw with AKV Jambo rooms or do you think it may have something to do with the refurb? It’s one of my home resorts and I’m perplexed. It seems strange they’d all book out at the same time for the same time out of the blue.

It was announced today that Poly will go through a soft goods refurb in 2021.

It may have to do with that? They may have pulled things for now until they know exactly what will need to be taken offline later.

I noticed this as well. It’s definitely due to monorail not stopping there from Great Ceremonial House construction and Ohana being closed. I’m at Disney now and passed through there the other day for a dole whip and it was a ghost town.

You mean the huge amount of availability up until then is due to the monorail not stopping there? I agree that’s definitely part of that. But I don’t think it has to do with why it’s blocked out for most of May and June in all rooms. I think Sandi is right and it’s probably due to the soft goods refurb.

I have a reservation for a studio during this time period. Now I wonder if that’s a good or bad thing. Good as in a room that’s been refurbed or bad as in construction everywhere or worse. Ugh

It is only softgoods. Not really disruptive.

Excuse the newbie question, does soft goods mean like, pillows and bedding? Or is it less literal? :D

Soft goods usually refers to less durable items like fabrics, or items covered with fabric ( including mattresses) and bedding, curtains, pillows. Maybe paint and carpet.

It generally won't include things like taking out the carpet entirely and replacing with a laminate or tile, retiling the bathrooms, installing the new wall beds.

I am also a newbie so I'm learning with you :)
An article I saw on it indicated soft goods could include "wall coverings, floor coverings, linens, and some decor." I have to wonder about the fate of the Lilo and Stitch mural on the pull down murphy bed since the resort is transitioning to the Moana theme. We just love that little Lilo and Stitch mural and would be sad to see it go. I actually love the current decor in the Poly studios in general.

I am another DVC member who has been confused about the changes in Poly availability the last few days :scratchin On December 9th, I modified my split stay for the beginning of May to a full stay at the Poly Villas and had no problem doing that as all of May and June was wide open :confused3 Now I am hoping that there won't be any changes to my reservation pixiedust: I was staying in the Tokelau building and on Wednesday they came in, checked my mattress and said the room was due for an new mattress and asked if I wanted them to do that :goodvibes I said yes and had a wonderful, new mattress for my last night at the Poly

That's awesome you got to try out a new mattress! I wonder if they will be able to work around those that had existing reservations by going one building at a time.

We switched a mid-May reservation last week( from 2 br savanna view at Kidani to 2 lake view Poly studios) because my kids have been begging to stay at Poly and I was shocked how easily available it was. I was going to wait a couple of weeks but then decided to just switch when I saw it. I just hope this doesn’t impact our reservation; I’ll take any soft goods refurb as an added bonus!

I was looking for mid-July and noticed that there is a 4 consecutive night stretch where the Bungalows are booked. I wonder if that is due to a refurb, seems unlikely that all 20 Bungalows would be booked for those 4 nights.

That is strange! What’s also strange though is that the bungalows are fully booked (or blocked out) for most of May and June as well just as the standard and lake view villas are.

It is possible DVC booked them up as we are within the 11 month window.
Remember they can also anticipate that they will be available for breakage and remove ahead of 60 days.

Between refurbs and the Poly hotel side opening around that time, they may have decided to pull for points bookings

Also, with people having points to use or burn, I have heard a bunch of people blowing points on 1-2 nights in a bungalow or CCV cabin.
