Polynesian and Noise

We've never stayed anywhere on Disney property except for the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. On our next trip we may consider something else, so I'm looking at the Poly. However, I've heard some people say that the rooms are not well insulated and can get very noisy. Anyone have any opinions on that? It looks like a great place to stay and direct access to the monorail would be great, but if we're not getting any sleep at night, it wouldn't be worth it.

We were at the Poly last April. We were in Tokelau at the lagoon end and it was very quiet. We really didn't have any noise issues at all. It was wonderful.

I agree with sm04. Our first stay was in Niue, the second in Tokelou. We never heard our neighbors at either long house. It's a very quiet, relaxing resort.

We stayed in Rarotonga and our room faced the monorail and parking lot. I don't think there was any more noise than at any other resort...certainly way less than Wilderness Lodge lobby-facing rooms. :)

I think a lot of it has to do with your neighbors. On our last trip to the Polynesian, we had a very noisy family on the other side of the wall. We heard almost their entire nightime routine each night. They were loud, and spoke in loud voices. They checked out and we got new neighbors - who we never heard at all. We were very happy when we realized the first family had gone - the noise level did affect our enjoyment in the evenings (and we have young kids ourselves).

We've stayed at a lot of different resorts, and none are any different from the other. We've been at Pop and had no noise for a week....and we've stayed a different time and had noise all week! When we stayed at the Poly it was very quiet and we were right next to the elevators and near the doors, we never heard a thing. It really does depend on who your neighbors are.

One stay at the Polynesian...Tokelau, about mid-way down between the elevators and the lagoon end, facing towards the GF, second floor. We had a room with a connecting door...it was awful. We had a change of neighbors, midway through our stay. Both sets of families were on the loud side, and the connecting door made it even worse. I now open that door and stuff the bottom with towels..seems to help a bit.
Then, we had kids running down the hall in both the morning and the evening...banging on the walls and doors as they went. It was so annoying. Then, you would have the parents yelling...'Knock that off.....people may be trying to sleep!!' Yep, we were trying to sleep and if your kids banging on the walls/doors didn't wake us up, you just did with your screaming at them!!!

I don't think any one resort has better 'sound insulation' than another one. My quietest stays have been at POP and BWV. And everyone complains about noise at POP!! But in 5 stays there, I have had one neighbor who I thought was going to be loud but after their initial excitement, I never heard them again.

This is similar to our experiences. For the first part of the week it was really quiet. Then towards the weekend a family that came back after midnight and proceeded to carry on a conversation at what seems like the top of their lungs before going to bed for a couple of nights. Some guests are really loud and lack respect for their neighbors. Honestly after being awake since 6:45 AM, nothing could keep me awake, unless I drank a lot of caffeine.

It must have everything to do with your neighbors, because we have also stayed in Tokelau with a connecting room next to us, and we never once heard our neighbor. We were on the very end by the Neverland Club so the people used the door right outside our room to enter/exit the building and we heard voices a couple of times, but that's it. On the whole it was extremely quiet.

Yes I agree that it all depends on who's around you. We have heard the people next door from time to time, but our worse experience at the Poly was when staying CL in Hawaii. We had some people who let their kids run wild in the halls every morning screaming and yelling up and down the hall. Awful. We did mention it to the concierge staff, but I don't think they did anything. Honestly, every stay is different. We stayed at ASMU in August and didn't hear a peep!! Go figure.

Enjoy The Magic!!

Polynesian was the noisiest of every resort we've stayed (even compared to all-stars). First part of our trip, we had super loud neighbors that left their TV on an international news broadcast all night - we could hear every word. Second half of the week, my Mom and young niece occupied the connecting room. They are not loud at all and we could often here parts of their conversations, etc.

I can also vouch for this. DD and I stayed 3rd floor Hawaii last April and we were second to last room all the way down the hall (which I thought would be so quiet). I could not hear people on either side of me, but the hallway noise was just terrible! Kids running up and down, yelling, banging on doors, doors slamming as they shut, etc. No courtesy to fellow sleeping neighbors. I brought a sound machine and I could hear all of this over our sound machine on full blast. I was woken up a few times each evening. Don't know if it was the same people, but I was surprised at adults letting their children behave like that past midnight while others are trying to sleep! :scared1:

With that said, however, we still enjoyed our time at the Poly and would go back again in a heartbeat...and hope for quieter neighbors next time! It really is just luck of the draw. All you can do is cross your fingers that you'll have people around you who are courteous :goodvibes

We were in Raroatonga, 3rd floor. We occasionally heard kids running and yelling in the hall but it wasn't bad at all. Our room faced the monorail so there wasn't alot of traffic out there. The problem was the Great Ceremonial House; the noise level in there will make your hair stand on end. Between Kona and 'Ohana on the second floor, the noise is really bad.

Every person/family has different experiences, but we stayed at the Poly in Sept '07 and we slept fine all 8 nights we were there.......we were in Samoa, first floor facing the quiet pool :goodvibes.

I stayed in Tokelau, the first floor, first room on the side towards Captain Cooks. And the only noise I remember hearing is the boom of the fireworks at night. And I kind of liked that noise!:goodvibes

So the doors can be slammed shut? At Wilderness Lodge Villas the doors can't be slammed at all since they have some type of resistance (?hydraulic) built into them. They close gently on their own. That's usually what wakes us up at night when we stay someplace. It's the slam of a door that you lay in bed just waiting for, so you can't even sleep if you wanted too.

We stayed in Tokelau this past August and we didn't have an issue with the noise. In fact we are planning to stay at the Poly once again next August. :thumbsup2

We have stayed there 5 times, the rooms are very noisy! I am not going to lie to you...two times we stayed there we had neighbors that drove us up the walls, kids that cried all the time and the second time there were teenagers that acted up all the time until I called security. You can hear people in the halls, the rooms next to you, above you ... you name it you can probably hear it.

The other times were during the slow season and we lucked out and didnt have neighbors.

We love the Poly and will stay there again but I will ask for a top floor end room location to avoid as much noise as I can

We just got back Saturday from our stay at the Poly, we stayed GV CL room # 3519 in the Hawaii Bldg. and I have to say that the room was very quiet. This has got to be the quietest room I have stayed at. And I have stayed at several of the resorts.

Our stay at Poly was very quiet.

Then again, usually when I'm at WDW, I don't stay awake in bed waiting for my neighbors to return. We're on the go all day so when we do go to bed, I rarely have trouble falling asleep.

The only places that seemed noisy to me was CR near Chef Mickey's... and at one fo the mods we could hear the kids in the morning running up and down the hall yelling excitedly, "We're going to WDW! We're going to WDW!" It was so charming, we couldn't possibly be mad at them.
