Poly with no hopper?

My family (myself, DH, and 3 boys ages 14,8, and 5) were all booked for POR in June, but I was able to get an awesome, last minute DVC rental deal for the Poly, which will end up costing us what we were paying for POR. However, we had base tickets. I'm really excited to be staying at the Poly for 6 nights, but I'm wondering if it's going to be tough being so close to MK with no hopper pass? Adding the hopper would put us about $400 over my desired budget. Would it be worth it?

How many days do you have planned at MK?

I will say we are staying at Poly and plan to hop to MK often after being at a park earlier in the day. One of the main reasons we are excited to stay there. Just like at Beach Club we hopped in and out of Epcot at leisure!

But you know your budget - if it can take the hit or not. Don't go in debt for hoppers! :)

Truthfully, one of the (many) aspects we love about Poly is the ability to pop over to MK in the evening. Our last trip there in December, we didn't have hoppers but we also didn't go to any other parks; we were 100% focused on MK. If you are concerned that you'll spend a day at another park, return to the resort, and then feel to call of MK at night, then I'd consider the hopper. If you don't plan to return mid-afternoon or don't mind traveling back to your original park in the evenings, then it's not worth it.

Ditto this...stated better than I was able to!

I generally park hop - but have an annual pass for wdw - so it is not a big deal. really think if it puts your budget out - don't do it.

forgot - since you are going thru a DVC rental - then you don't have to buy your tickets from WDW - there are ticket brokers - where you might have the park hoppers free.

It depends on your touring style, really. We've spent a happy evening or two at the Poly, having dinner, watching the EWP, swimming, and watching the MK fireworks. We had hoppers but were happy to be in the relative quiet of the resort and just see the fireworks from our balcony or the beach. But if that sounds miserable to you, then I'd try to find a way to get the park hoppers. Also, don't forget you can also walk to the TTC and take the monorail to Epcot for the evening.

I have to say that we have APs so we can park hop but that being said when we stay at the Poly - it is in a class by itself. We love to just relax on the beach at night and watch the MK fireworks since they pipe in the music. We also love swimming at night with the torches lit. Plus since they have cut MK hours over the past years - they are no longer open until late. When we go in August MK closes at 9pm - we are used to going at 7ish and staying until midnight. That being said - I would forget the park hoppers and just relax at the hotel - it is beautiful. Plus you can have Dole Whips. Enjoy the Poly - we love it.

Honestly you will be fine! We spent 9 nights/10 days there with a 7 day base ticket. There is so much to do at the Poly (like fireworks on the beach, hula lessons, fire dancers, movies) you will not feel the need to rush to MK. We did focus on MK by spending 3 of our 7 park days there but never felt like we were missing anything by not having hoppers. For us I just do not see the value in hoppers. They are so pricey for what you get. I would rather spend the money on adding a day to my base with a night at a value, or add signatures at Cali Grill or at the Grand (which is what we did and totally worth it) or I would add water parks before I did hoppers. With that amount I would even add another night at the POLY and enjoy the awesome amenities.

What are you really getting from Disney when you give them $400 dollars for parks you already paid for to get into. We used to do hoppers but realized they just were not worth the money and preferred to spend the money on something we actually got in return. If we had limited time to where we would miss out on a park it would perhaps be different but 6 days means you can hit 2-3 days at MK days and another day in each park.

Thanks for the input! I think I'm going to forgo the hoppers and add an extra day on to the base for an evening at MK on arrival day or water park day. I really want to add a water park day, as we had a free water park day with the package I canceled, but I'm not seeing a way to add them anymore without adding the hopper.

Also, to the person who mentioned brokers with free hopper, could you PM me? Or anyone who may know of a cheap route to go for tickets that would include a waterp park day.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Poly without hoppers and were just fine. We had 2 full days at the MK, so we did go back to the MK on those evenings, but I really felt no desire to head into the MK the other three evenings. Our first night, we were just exhausted from travel and when we got back from Epcot at around 7:00pm, we just all took showers and then relaxed in the room before an early bedtime. Another night we ate at 'Ohana, swam a little and then watched the water parade and Wishes from the Poly beach. And on the third night, we had plans to be in the AK in the evening for ROL, but wound up just coming back to the Poly after dinner at Boma for a swim in the Oasis pool b/c we were just too hot & tired to go back to the Animal Kingdom.

As others have said, the Poly is just a really nice resort and has a nice evening vibe with the torches, etc.

Relax and enjoy your resort, staying in budget will be less stressful. You didn't say the dates your going but if you are going when there is a party at the MK you can always get tickets for that.
There will be a lot of fun things to do at Poly so relax, enjoy and don't stress
