Poly - Which View??

I have never stayed at Poly.... Is the Magic Kingdom view worth the extra money over a garden view or lagoon view?? We are planning on doing the last2 nights there. Please help!!

Sorry. That sounds facetious.... but really, do you plan to stand there gazing toward MK? If so, and it's important, then by all means... but if not, really, and you just want the Poly experience without worrying much about exactly what is outside the curtains... use the cash on a nice last-night dinner or something else.

I never pay for views on short stays - i.e., two nights - because usually the grand total time spent admiring what the view is, is something like 5.2 minutes. On long stays, I will pay for a view because I will be sitting on the balcony/patio watching sunsets or water activity or whatever. I'd say, if your last two days are anything like most of our ends-of-trips, you're more likely to be running around trying to do last things and re-do favorite things rather than hanging out in your room, view or not.

Honestly, I don't think the Magic Kingdom view (Lagoon View) room is worth it. There is quite a distance, as well as an island with a bunch of trees, between you and the castle. If you were talking about a TPV at CR, as opposed to Garden Wing, then definitely yes. Never been impressed with the view of MK from the Poly. Especially if you can just go to Poly beach to see Wishes:/

When I stayed there last year, I was faced with a similar decision. I didn't want to pay for Lagoon or TPV, but I didn't want to chance "garden" view and get the monorail or parking lot. So I booked Club Level garden view!! Victory! I knew I'd be in the Hawaii building facing the quiet pool, which is most definitely not the parking lot. I also knew I'd have the Club Lounge to hang out in when it's raining or to get a snack. I also knew I'd be around the corner from both the beach (Fireworks) and the volcano pool. It really was perfect!

Although, there was a 25-30% discount for that room. Without it, I probably would have done garden view.

IF money were not object, I'd LOVE a TPV room. Of course, then I'd also want CL TPV. But realistically, the only time I think I'd actually be gazing out adoringly at that view is on say, the 4th of July or NYE when there are extra-special fireworks for Wishes. We stay in a standard view room at the Poly (because it's really hard to justify the extra expense of "a view" for us) and just love it. We can walk out the longhouse door (or our patio when we are granted our desired 1st floor room) and see Wishes from the walkways in seconds. That's good enough for us!

LOVE Garden View at the Poly! I would suggest just putting in some general room requests to up your chances of getting a good view and location. We have stayed at Poly 3 times (2 GV view and 1 LV-CL). We just stayed GV a few weeks ago and I simply put a request in for a quiet room, close to the main building on a 3rd floor. We got a GREAT room! We were in Rarotonga on the 3rd floor all the way at the end of the hall with a view of the quiet pool. It was fabulous. I only book GV at Poly and if I ever stay CL there again, I will book GV-CL as well!

We requested a full balcony Garden View in Tokelau both times, and were delighted with our rooms. Both times they overlooked lush gardens.

It really does depend on if you intend to be there for Wishes and/or to spend a fair amount of time at the resort. We just returned from a stay at Poly TPV (in Hawaii CL) and it was amazing, but then again we did spend a lot of time enjoying the beach, pool, and we watched Wishes from our patio every single night of our trip (well, once from inside our room....). So for our family, yes, a TPV was well worth the cost.

Everybody is different, but we never pay extra for views. We do spend a lot of time at the resort, but not so much time in our room. With that said, I don't think there's a bad view anywhere at the Poly (of course that's just MY opinion). Our Poly GV was a nice view of the quiet pool.

I agree with most people about not paying the extra for the view with this caveat: I think that if you decide you do want the good view then TPV IS worth the extra cost over Lagoon view because TPV guarantees a MK view.

A MK view from the Poly is magical. You can lay in your bed and watch the fireworks over the castle while listening to the music from the show piped in. But, I would upgrade in this order (based on the funds I had available). I would upgrade to club level garden view first. You'll have access to the CL lounge that has a great vie of the castle. Then, if more funds were available, upgrade to CL magic kingdom view

I have stayed at the Poly multiple times & the only time we had a view, I was 3 1/2 in 1975. I can sort of remember my mother shutting the curtain during the fireworks (I am sure they were over) so I could go to bed. My sisters were out with my dad at the MK at that time.

But since then we have only had garden view, regular rooms & I never felt jipped. I know people say why stay at the Poly & pay that price if you aren't going to be in your room that long to enjoy it.

Well we stay there to have the transportation & it is a fun/great memory from childhood to adulthood.

Anyways, we rarely look out of our room. OK we do but I don't mind people watching & I wouldn't mind a monorail view either (hence my username).

I am up at 6 or earlier, shower & we are out of our room at the latest 7:30. We return & go for a swim, shower & go back to the park & then return around 10 or so & go to bed. On our non park days, we are at the pool.

Yes we will sit out on the balcony/lanai to eat breakfast at times or snacks but we aren't out there long enough to pay for the view. Now if money was no object then maybe.

We have stayed GVCL & then the next yr booked the same but when we had major check in issues they upgraded us to TPV CL & OMG words, nor pictures do it justice!!!

There is NO better view in all of WDW! I can't tell you how many nights we watched Wishes from our room, music was piped in down below in the bushes..

Got up every morning & literally went straight out to the balcony to watch sunrise over castle!

There is something about seeing, GF, MK, CR all together, at night it's truly magical!!

It's not a direct view up Main Street.

You can't see Main Street at all.
Of course, you can't see more than the tops of the buildings along Main Street even when standing at the entrance to Magic Kingdom itself.

What you can see from Poly, is a distance view of the castle.
It makes for impressive fireworks viewing, etc, but you would need binoculars to see anything detailed. And you still wouldn't have the vantage point required to see Main Street or anything else at "street" level.

From many of the theme park view rooms, you have to look past/around/through a tree-covered island, which further hides details from the actual view of the park.

You will be gazing at the castle from a physical distance of approximately half a mile away - the other side of Seven Seas Lagoon.

The real reason, to me, for getting TPV, is the glorious fireworks each night. Especially great if you are there during a party night in the fall or special fireworks night. There is no better view. And you get to see the Electric Water Pageant every night. And it's right from your room no fighting crowds on the beach.

Lagoon view means you are partially blocked by a tree but still, its wonderful o sit on the balcony overlooking the water and watch all the activity including the ferries and resort launches. Extremely relaxing. The castle is across the lagoon so some distance away. It is roughly in the middle with view of MK spanning from Space Mountain and parts of Tomorrowland across to the top of BTMRR. On the left of lagoon is GF and the right the Contemporary. You can also see almost all of the monorail loop and watch them go around and through the Contemporary. There's a lot going on and we just love it. A view of the lagoon and especially CL is well worth it for us.

I agree -- the view is magical. We watched Wishes every single night from our patio (except one night in our room). We had the 4th of July fireworks for most nights and WOW if someone hasn't seen those, mark it down to see them someday. They are outstanding.

OP -- I will say I was initially disappointed that you really can see so little of MK. Basically just the top third of the Castle. A bit of space mountain too. However, you can see the GF on one side and the CR on the other side, so during Wishes it is a spectacular view. One thing for sure you won't be disappointed in is how beautiful Wishes and water parade are right from the Poly.
