Poly vs Yacht Club

I vote for YC. Very convenient for both your HS and Epcot plans and not bad for your MK plans. It is my kids (13 and 15) favorite resort! We have been to late hours at MK a few times and sometimes you wait a bit for a bus and others, you get right on. Also, with teenagers, the sinks outside the shower area make getting ready easier. My kids like the Poly but love the YC.

I must be crazy, now I have another scenario…

Forget Poly:
Save $500+ overall
We’ll still visit one day for breakfast.

Stay at Yacht for 2 nights instead of 3:
We can walk to end HS night and then start/finish a full long day at Epcot the next day.

Stay at Wilderness Lodge on final night:
Gets us a boat ride home following long, late MK final day at midnight.
I’m assuming the boats run then for late EMH?
It’s a resort we were going to visit anyway to see decorations and maybe eat at Geyser.

That would mean an additional pack-up-and-move-resorts-day, but that shouldn’t be too bad.

We leave in 14 days, no pressure at all!

Tough call. That's a lot of moving in a short amount of time. We do quick splits like that, but it's definitely not for everyone..... but you know your fam and your travel preferences best.

Boats to WL should be running after MK EMH. If for some reason they aren't, there is a bus to WL.

How are you getting around? Driving? Taxi/ride share? Getting Disney to move your luggage?

Thank you all so much for your input and opinions, they really helped me get some clarity on what is best for us.

Poly is out, Yacht is in!
And, I might even try to start there a day earlier.

Still thinking about the final night near MK, but we'll see.

I think a lot of it comes down to personal preference - theming wise we much prefer the light, airy nautical theming of Yacht and Beach Club to the dark, wooden architecture at the Polynesian.

The pool at Yacht Club is IMO hands down the best on Disney property. We used it every day and the set up was fantastic - steps away from the room, with Beaches and Cream seconds away if you want to grab some ice cream and Hurricane Hanna’s very close too if you’d like something more filling. There’s so much at the pool to occupy the whole family - I personally opt for Yacht Club for the pool alone! Plus, swimming while watching the Epcot fireworks go off is a pretty incredible experience.

We also loved the close proximity to Epcot and DHS, however the Polynesian’s location right on the monorail is also invaluable if you’re planning on spending a lot of time at Magic Kingdom.

I also think it’s worth taking into account which restaurants you’d like to eat at - both hotels are close to lots of amazing options.

I agree that I’d stick to one hotel for the three nights - the hassle of moving would for me exceed any gains from being closer to MK for the last night.

For me, I’d ask these questions when deciding:

1) Look at photos of each resort, communal areas, rooms, etc. Which do you prefer stylistically/ practicality wise?

2) Would you prefer to stay near to Epcot/ DHS or MK? Think about your breakfast/ dinner plans and which resort would tie in best with those.

3) Which restaurants are you mainly focusing on? It’s pretty quick getting to walk to your dinner at Epcot or the Boardwalk if staying at Yacht Club, but if you’re eating much more in the MK area, the Poly might be more convenient.

Oops - just seen you decided before I posted! Yacht Club is an excellent decision and I’d definitely try to squeeze in an extra night if you can, so you can make the most of its facilities and location.

If you’re into steak, be sure to check out Yachtsman Steakhouse - it was probably the best steak there that we’ve ever had! :)

Good choice with Yacht Club. Poly is a fine resort, but Yacht Club can't be beat, and should be especially fun based on the age of your kids. Hope you have a great time.

Done deal:
4 nights at French Quarter
3 nights at Yacht Club
Both are surprises for the family, they think we are doing AS Sports and Pop. Can't wait to surprise them, hope to keep it secret until DME bus ride.

Current problem...
9 days until our trip and nothing more to plan! I don't know what to do with my time.
