So I (29F) am taking my mom (68F) to Disney World for my birthday this year. The very first time I went to Disney World was for my fourth birthday, and we stayed at what was then Dixie Landing. I have a trip planned this year for what will be my 30th birthday. I had originally booked Pop Century, but had decided that because it was such a special trip I would upgrade us to the Polynesian. After learning about all of the construction that is potentially going to be going on with the DVC tower, I am now second guessing this upgrade and thinking that POR maybe a better fit. We have previously stayed at Dixie Landing, Wilderness Lodge, OKW, Corando Springs, and AKL Kidani. This will be our first trip since 2017. We are starting with 2 nights at the HRH at Universal, then going to Disney for 7 nights. We would be going to the parks each day. I like to rope drop with a potential mid day return to room if my mom is tired. I like returning to the parks for night time shows/ more rides. I am torn between which hotel to ultimately choose. I am looking for any insite on any of the hotels mentioned, and any recommendations.

This sounds like the trips my Mom and I take! (I’m 30, she is 69). Our last trip was to Coronado in Dec 2019 and prior we did the Poly in Sept 2018 together and LOVED it. We booked it again for this November on the DVC side, though we booked before we knew about the construction (ugh).

We were considering Beach Club, Yacht Club or Boardwalk resort but landed on the Poly again due to the recent refurbishment and you just can’t beat the MK fireworks view from the Poly beach! Plus, the Monorail is extremely convenient to MK and EP.

Poly over Pop because at the age your Mom is the easier the transport to parks the better and Pop gets quite the Skyliner line in the morning. And if you aren’t in a preferred room you can walk miles and miles until you’re walking as long as the Nile 😝

When are you going? If it’s late summer 2022 or later I would consider Grand Destino + Minnie Vans. Imho the least amount of walking at Disney is in that combo actually. Minnie vans are a very expensive mode of transport but in my experience were always very nice and very safe. Like a personal chauffeur. So I feel the money saved on a deluxe upgrade vs CSR is well spent on Minnie Vans. Grand Destino is so small the Tower Rooms don’t feel like a long walk (but I say only with Minnie Vans because the buses at CSR make multiple stops and can take forever, and even when operating sometimes you can’t get one and will have to take a bus). The rooms in the tower are great! Big showers, floor to ceiling type windows. Lovely bar up top for an evening cocktail!

If it was only between Poly & POR I would still vote Poly because easy MK access and the laid back vibe (but maybe consider sticking to the quiet pool, I found the main pool to be chaos but the quiet pool was great!).

If you’re willing to branch out I would consider Riviera as well because the rooms are nice and all are an easy walk (not the tower studio! Those are too small! I’d be looking for a deluxe studio.)

YC & BC are runners up because of the convenience for two parks- especially if you’ll be park hopping into EP for evening dining! I see BC as the last of the “old school” Disney remodels and YC first of the “new school” (carpet vs hardwood, lower vs raised beds). Just like Poly I would avoid the main pools and do the quiet pools at either as they got maybe 5% the traffic SAB did on my trips. BWI should be going under refurb any day now so I can’t recommend it currently.

The construction is well away from the DVC side isn’t it?

Disney is very good at hiding the construction at their resorts. The new construction at the Poly shouldn't affect you at all. :)
