OK - we were pretty set on staying at Poly!!!!!! But I have been reading and thinking... and rereading... what is the opinion of the Poly vs Beach Club...

we are a 1st time family going to WDW... DH, DW, DD4

I've stayed at both and WITHOUT A DOUBT go for the Polynesian. It is classic Disney, you will see Cinderella's castle and Space Mountain from the grounds of the resort, you will be able to ride the monorail to MK and to Epcot, you will see the Contemporary resort from the grounds of the resort, you will have two great pools and a gorgeous beach.
Go to the Poly - you will not regret it!

I've stayed at both also and I too say Poly. It's got so many things going for it...location, room size, atmosphere..
If you can swing the price (and the BC is not cheap either, by the way), pick the Poly!!

Thanks... yeah I see its pretty much the same price range... hmmm what to do... I think the Poly looks more like a resort and BC looks more hotelly... :) If that makes since... I will talk to hubby some more... heck I think we will have fun where ever we stay...

Thank you for the insites... really poly isnt much more - I think it was about 200 more for the entire trip when I just put in made-up dates... I sure wish 08 dates would get posted here soon... I am going crazy

We have stayed at both...with a 4 yr old for the first time definately Poly... its advantages over beach club are the monorail quick trip to MK , castle view with fireworks if it is too late to stay in the parks for them, quick walk over to TTC to get monorail to EPCOT

good things about beach club that may not pertain to your trip style this time are easy walk to EPCOT , nice boat to MGM...really cool pool for older kids...slide, whirlpool area, tube pool (the sandy beach area is nice for the younger ones, but so much they wouldn't be able to do there) boardwalk activities in the evening...again older activities....

Go with the Poly :goodvibes

Interesting, your comment above that the BC seemed more "hotelly"..there's another active thread about the BC...the poster reported being disappointed with it on a recent visit, and expressed the same thing you did!

Since this is your first trip to WDW, choose the Poly.

I have stayed at both, and I would say Poly if you wanted to do MK more than anything else. Beach Club is AWESOME for kids, and very close to Epcot, MGM, and water parks. We spend more time at Epcot, so it is a no brainer for us. I don't agree that the Poly feels more resorty than the Beach Club. They both are amazing.

Having just returned from the BC, I'd say spend just a bit more and stay at the Poly! We visited the resort and it's gorgeous. Plus, with a 4 yr. old, you are more likely to want to spend time at MK than at Epcot. We were less than impressed with the BC.

Poly all the way :) We have 2 DD's 10 and 6 and they love the Poly, we weren't really wowed by the beach club at all. We've done 6 nights at Y/B and 85 at the Poly in the last three years so you can see how much we love the Poly :)

I've stayed at both and I would say to go for the Poly. I thought BC was beautiful and it had a great pool. That being said, you can't beat the location of the Poly, especially when you want to get to Magic Kingdom. It has a very tropical feel and is right on the lagoon. The food at Kona Cafe is awesome and O'Hana's does a breakfast with the characters. Good luck and have fun. :)

The Polynesian! True Disney...view of the Castle...thats why I chose it for our wedding:)
All the previous sentiments about the Poly are true...no need to repeat!

Both are fantastic resorts. Polynesian is, hands down, my favorite resort at WDW so of course it gets my vote. It's especially "magical" with young children. Boardwalk would probably be better with teenage kids or older though. Like I always say, it usually comes down to which theming you prefer. I do however prefer the Poly's location and transportation options.

BC/YC and Poly are my absolute two favorite resorts. However, we are choosing YC this August because we will have just returned from Maui and while we really really like the Poly, it will feel a little "fake" compared to the real thing. My only real downside on the Poly is that the lobby there is SO loud and I like being able to get to my room in the same building. While some people say that the BC feels hotelly, I find that a positive. Having to go outside to get to your room feels "motelly" to me. :rotfl:

Given this is your first trip and you have a 4yo, i'd vote for Poly. If you are staying long enough, why not split your trip. We did that a few years ago 4 nights at Poly and 4 at BC and it was perfect. This time it's only a 5 day trip and our May trip had a lot of MK time and no Epcot time (we were at VWL) so this time we are going to spend more time at Epcot and rent a car for the 2 days we go to MK.

Go for the Poly!

Our last trip was a split stay between the Poly and the Beach Club. And we all wished we had never left the Poly. It is soo nice to be able to walk to the TTC or to hop on the monorail and be at the Magic Kingdom in less than 10 minutes. While the bus ride from the Beach Club to the Magic Kingdom was more than 40 minutes. Plus, you can let the kiddies play in the pool while you watch Wishes from you pool-chair, sipping a nice frosty beverage. It doesn't get much better than that!

If you find that the Beach Club does appeal to you, I would wait until your little one is a bit older. Storm Along Bay is big, and it is easy to loose track of your child in there. Plus there are many different areas to the pool, so you can't really sit in one chair and see the whole pool area. I would find that nerve racking with a small child.

I really wish I was at the Poly right now.:cutie:

The grass is always greener for me. When I stay at the Poly I miss being so close to Epcot and MGM and when I stay at the Beach Club I miss the monorail proximity. Both are great to me!

I have stayed at the BC and it was ok...would not stay there again because it was too chaotic.

I would go to the POLY in a heartbeat.

Our 2 favorite resorts for 2 completely different reasons. You will get totally different trips at those resorts. BC has a great sandy pool for a 4 yr old. We have twin toddlers and they played in the sandy pool for several hours every single day. It's a relaxing and beautiful area if you love walking to Epcot for dinner each night (like we do.....), watching Illuminations and then walking back to the resort. MGM and Fantasmic show was also very convenient because we could walk back to our resort after the show. At Poly, you will feel like you are in the middle of the magic being in the monorail MK loop. Poly has great restaurants and a great pool. The rooms are much larger than the BC rooms and Poly has newly renovated rooms also. You can't go wrong with either resort -- it really just depends on what type of vacation you are looking for.

Congratulations on your upcoming trip to WDW! First, there are a few things to take into consideration in terms of location. If you have younger children and will be spending more time at MK, then I'd say go for the Polynesian which also has larger rooms than BC. If you'll be spending more time at Epcot and want a wider range of dining choices near your hotel, then I'd say BC.

We stayed at BC last trip and loved it but will trying out the Polynesian in August. I initially wanted to go back to BC but my son convinced me to try the Polynesian. I'll post a full report when I come back.
