Poly Transportation Concerns

I just switched from the Boardwalk to the Poly Villas today and now I am a little concerned. I didn't even think to look into the monorail modified schedule. Having a 1 year old and stroller I loved the idea and convenience of the monorail. My real concern is that from 11:30am - 6pm that the monorail is shut down on Wednesday and Thursday. We are doing AK the first part of Wednesday and coming back for a rest and then going to Epcot on Wednesday Afternoon/Evening. We panned on grabbing the monorail at TTC but apparently the monorail is down. Same thing with Tuesday morning having an 8am ADR at Chef Mickey's but the monorail won't be running until 8:30. Pretty bummed. I know there is a boat from MK but that isn't as quick and efficient as the monorail.

We just returned from 5 days at the Poly. I too was concerned about the modified monorail schedule but it honestly didn't affect us as much as I'd feared. On Monday we had a 7:15 ADR at Chef Mickey's. The front desk advised us to be at the bus stop by 7:00 to catch a bus because the monorail wouldn't start until 8:30, but that was too close for comfort for me so we just got a cab. There was a van cab right out front at 6:50am with a car seat for our 3 year old. The cab fare was less than $8. We thought that was definitely worth it for ensuring we made our reservation on time (we got there early and were seated by 7:05). Other than that, we just planned around the monorail closures and it was fine. Knowing the modified schedule made it easy to adapt. Don't let it worry you too much; for us, the monorail's typical convenience, especially with a stroller, outweighed the minor hiccups with the closures.

We just had a trip at GF back in November and think the monorail to and from EPCOT is a big pain. From POLY it would probably be faster to walk to the TTC and then get on the EPCOT monorail. And this had nothing to do with it's closure:(

Gosh we dealt with this last year... it's still going on?! :scared1:

We stayed at GF Aug 2014 & Poly Aug 2015 and both trips monorail was on a modified schedule :sad2:. We had to work around it. Mostly busses to Epcot in the morning. Last Aug schedule was more confusing. Really had to read the schedule every morning. One morning we walked to TTC to catch Epcot monorail, oops. Not running that morning and ended up having to take a bus we could have caught at Poly bus stop.

Monorail issues just keep going on & on. Seems no end in sight. This August back at GF, hope it's back to regular schedule by then.

For your Epcot day, just walk to the TTC and catch the Epcot monorail directly. It's an easy 5 minute walk.

We actually prefer the boats.... They're pretty quick. Only downside is you have to fold the stroller.

That was our plan but our Epcot day is split with AK. We have an 8am Tusker House ADR and then are doing the Safari and some trails. We planned on heading back to the resort midday and going to Epcot around 2ish. We were gonna walk to TTC and take the monorail but that day is on Wednesday and the monorail is shut down from 11:30am to 6pm.

For the Chef Mickey's reservation, you could always Uber it if you feel like it's a major inconvenience. A trip from the Poly to the CR would probably be less than $5.

For the Epcot day, the resort monorail line will be down, but I don't think the Epcot monorail will be down. I haven't looked at the schedule recently, but generally, the modified schedule is with the resort line.

The monorail is 40 years old. Infrastructure ages and requires maintenance. There is no truly "down" time to do it.

It takes far longer to "renovate" something than to "replace" it and the monorail is no exception. I stayed at the GF in January, 2014 and the monorail "rehab" had been ongoing for many months with it shutdown from 11am to 5 pm. I generally took the boat over to MK cause the bus ride seemed to go to MK via Pittsburgh.
So that was then...25 months ago...I was still working ( I have been retired now for almost 2 years) ...and the monorail rehab goes on, and on, and ....

The monorail downtime will not effect you on Wednesday or Thursday for only the Express beam will be going down. Resorts and Epcot beams will still operate as normal. Disney has been practicing this midday shut down for over a year now.

Here is a link to the correct monorail schedule from the mouse the info they sent out to the guests in the automated email is a bit vague.

I posted a link with the correct schedule for you.

They are doing a major system change. Beams, trains and system all being updated.

That's the beginning of peak season should be back to a more normal schedule then, it was that time last year.

I don't believe the Epcot monorail is affected? I think it's just the resort monorail and the express monorail to magic kingdom.

There are 3 separate monorail lines.

For an ADR that early, I'd Uber or take a cab. It'll cost virtually nothing, and be so much easier.

When we were there in October, they had busses from Poly and GF to the CR for early morning ADRs. The bus started at the TTC, then Poly, then GF, then the CR.

Only express is affected by that midday shutdown. Epcot and resorts will still be running.
