I am staying at the Poly in early June. I hate ADRs!!! I know in the parks they are necessary and I have a Kona breakfast reserved. What are the odds of me being able to walk up to Kona or Ohana and get seated for dinner? I would be okay with a 30 minute or so wait.

I've tried the walk-up to Kona and have been seated within 30. If early June is busy (as I believe it would be), perhaps trying earlier meal times like 5:45-6:30 or later (9i:15ish) may be more effective.

I disagree completely. 5:45 - 6:30 are prime dinner hours.
I say your chances of getting into 'OHana are slim to none, but best right at opening. They often have a separate line for potential walkups. The wait, if even available, is reported to often be 60 - 90 minutes for walk ups.
Kona may be a bit easier, but certainly no guarantee.

You should be able to get into Kona around 4:30 or so with little or no wait - we've walked up there twice - both times around 2:30.

O'hana - forget about it!

Kona closes for lunch at 3pm and reopens at 5pm..they can't walk up at 4:30 because it's closed

From what I can tell walk ups are being discouraged. I would expect to wait or even to be told that they are full and not accepting people without reservations. Have a backup plan.

I agree that ADRs can make a vacation seem less spontaneous and even add to the stress. But they seem to be more and more necessary to have a decent meal there.

I would be shocked if you were able to get a walk up at 'Ohana. You might have better luck at Kona, but I definitely would not count on it. Your best bet would be to go right when they open but personally I wouldn't risk it.

We don't do ADRs ahead of time and instead get them the afternoon of based on what is available and what we are in the mood for. Using that strategy Kona has been open almost every time we've been there. Just be a bit flexible on time and you should be fine.
