Poly Room Question

We are staying at the Poly for a week this May and are trying to decide between requesting one of the older longhouses near the volcano pool (Samoa) or the GCH (Rarotonga) or one of the newer longhouses that are farther away but have larger rooms (such as Rapa Nui, Tahiti or Tokelau). Is the room size difference between the older and newer rooms really that noticeable? Any advice is welcome here, we booked a Garden View and have 5 in our group (2 adults, 2 teenagers and 1 child).

Interested in the answer to this question as well. Both times we've stayed there we've been in Tokelau, but this time I've debated requesting an older building closer to the volcano pool.

I believe that they are about 60 sq ft larger. The bathrooms are bigger and many of the rooms in the newer longhouses have double sinks except for Tokelau. The accessible rooms in the others only have one sink. There is a bit more room next to the first bed so it's not right against a wall. If a balcony is important, you'll have one on the second floor unlike the older longhouses.

Look on the "rooms and rates" page of tikiman's site. He has a floorplan to look at.

I've stayed at the Poly 6 times. All but one trip we stayed CL in the Hawaii building. The other trip was just me & my DD and we stayed in Tokelau and I did notice that room was bigger but just the 2 of didn't really need the extra space.

I really like the location of the Tokelau room. We were on the quiet pool side and while we had a GV room we could see the castle from our balcony. I liked that it was reasonably close to everything-GCH, boat, and TTC.

Have you considered concierge? For the 5 of you, especially the teens if they eat all day like mine did, the lounge and it's offerings would be worth it's weight in gold. Extra room to spread out plus a place to "get away" and all of the snacks and drinks.

Hawaii is the only longhouse for us at the Poly! :thumbsup2

We've stayed in Rapa Nui twice. We really liked it. It is a hike from the Grand Ceremonial house, but we absolutely loved that it was a very short walk to the TTC to the express monorails to Epcot and MK.

We have stayed in the Tahiti buiding 4 times, and really love the location with the quiet beach. However, our last trip was our first summer trip, and it was really hard to go back out in the heat and walk to GCH to get drinks. If you are going in the hot summer months, I would recommend a building close to the GCH. This is what drove us to book CL for our trip this year. We can have the beach location, and be close to GCH and the main pool. I can't wait for October to get here!!:goodvibes

We have requested and stayed in Tokelau 2 times and love it.The room has 2 chairs and a small table instead of 1 which might be useful for you.We rent a crib so we like the extra room. The location is great-quiet pool right outside, close to laundry and busses, short walk to ttc and the main building and pool is not to far(cut through the quiet pool depending on where your room is!)

We have stayed at the Poly 5 times split between Nuie, Samoa and Rarotonga. All were convenient for the pools, the monorail and the GCH.

Our favourite is Samoa.

We will also be there in May. We have stayed in Tokelau and Samoa. I prefer Somoa because it is closest to Captain Cooks(morning coffee) and pool, but we are a family of four. The rooms in Tokelau are noticeably larger. There huge. Tokelau is the most centrally located. In your situation I would go with Tokelau. I think you will enjoy the extra space, and its probaby only 50 yards from Samoa. I would be happy with either one. I always have a hard time deciding which one to request. The tokelau is closest to the laundry and bus stop. Enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the input, we are torn between asking for Samoa, Rarotonga or Tokelau.

Of the three, the only one with balconies on the second floor is Tokelau and is my recommendation. Also, of the 3 it's the only one that is one of the 4 new ones with the largest room. Samoa would be 2nd choice and is a good choice. In Rarotonga you could get a parking lot view which isn't so good.

The Poly is not as spread out as it may seem. In fact, you can walk from the TTC entrance to Luau cove in 7 minutes and Tokelau is almost exactly in the middle of that timing. So, it's close to the TTC and the GHC. The beach is about one minute. Tokelau is always my top garden view choice but you will have a great time in any building.
