Poly room photos - colors deceptive?

Silly subject, I know, and we are staying there regardless...

I looked at a number of sites for room photos of several resorts.

The Polynesian rooms look "pastel" pink/coral in some photos but look more natural/brown in others. They are the same patterns on the bedspreads, pillows, etc. so I assume it is the photo/lighting that is changing the look of the colors.

So would you say the Poly rooms are more pink/pastel or browns/tan more natural coloring? And is that mirror frame on the wall really that ghastly bright neon green?

Maybe we should have waited until the rehabs when the rooms are suppose to be more "natural" colors...of course, we can't change our trip at this point so reassure me the rooms don't look like the "wedding cake/castle" fiasco.

The mirror isn't really "neon" green--more a seafoam green gilt color. There are some very pale colors along with the neutrals--coral and/or greens. The bathrooms are a forest green type granite with paler shade of the same in the shower curtains and wallpaper. The background shade of the bathroom paper is a neutral beige. The paper in the rooms is a more neutral beige as well. The rooms do have a good deal of "earth" tones, but there is a subtle splash of color in the spreads, throw pillows, etc.

Tess???? Seafoam????

Sorry can't go with you on that one. I work around color pallets with some graphics work I do and that is not seafoam. In fact I would just call it green with no modifiers.

Anyway there is no pink in the wall color and almost every room is the same color. There are a few rooms in Hawaii that have a different wall color and texture (one was our room) but there are only 3 rooms like this and the tan is slightly darker.

I have seen the test room colors and fabrics and I would not be expecting more “natural” colors out of the new rooms. One of the colors I have seen was a deep burnt orange but this may not end up in the room. It may only be the hallway. Other things for the room I have seen are a very dark brown weave pattern and the bamboo rail went from light to a dark stained brown. I am not making any judgment on the new room or saying it is better or worse but it will not be what I would call more natural. It will seem even larger in the room with the new furniture.

That's so funny, Steve, those pictures show exactly what the OP asked about, lol. Boy what a difference!
I would say the bottom pic is much closer to reality.

I also wouldn't call the mirror frame seafoam--it is just very very green. In fact, it really doesn't "go with" the rest of the decor, it's too cartoonish kind of green, you know? (not that I mind, it's like a reminder I am at WDW and an expression of that whimsy)

Don't worry Rhonna, the overall feeling in the decor is definitely natural. You will love it there!

Can't wait until we are back at the Poly in October!

Chamonix,

I agree the mirror seemed like it would be something you would see in Toontown. I think a bamboo or Koa wood mirror would look much better myself.

As for the bottom photo it actually is the test texture and color they did in our room and it is slightly darker than the other rooms. They tried it out in 3 rooms in Hawaii to see if they liked it. It can also be found where the test rooms for the new design are. I liked the color and texture very much but you won’t find it in any other rooms other than the 3 in Hawaii.

Also our ceiling was the same color where most rooms have the lighter tan on the walls and an off white on the ceiling.

I wouldn't call it "green" or "neon green" either--I guess we'll all have to agree that it's a "different" green in the mirror. I'd much rather see a nice bamboo frame or other wooden one--cartoonish is a good description--although every time I see it, I think of Ariel's cave where she has "who's its and what's its galore. . ." hence my "seafoam" logic. :)

I don't think I said there was any "pink" in the wallpaper--merely a neutral shade of beige or ivory if you prefer--definitely not pink. Your top photo does seem to represent pink pillows although the bottom looks more like the coral of the pillows although your walls do look pink tinged. ;) If you overlook that, the bottom is representative of the rooms--now all we need is a photograph of the bathroom (I think I aptly described that anyway) ;) . An interior decorator or color expert, I'm not!

Now the top picture colors, I don't so much care for - the bottom photo is just beautiful.

So the second photo is the "new" decor? I guess that means we won't get it. :(

No the second photo was our room used as a test room last year. There are only 3 rooms in Hawaii that will look like this. The "new" test rooms are located somewhere else and look completely different. Unless you get one of the 3 rooms in Hawaii your room walls and ceiling will not look exactly like that, they will look the the top photo.See how the walls are lighter and the ceiling is white on the upper photo. That is what the rooms look like now. I have been asked not to post photos of the "new" room decore.

Tikiman~ I think that bottom picture looked liked the room we just stayed in. (just got back on Tuesday) I remember those "coral color" pillows. We were in room 2533. My husband thought that the wallpaper and carpet looked pretty new.

I liked the decor, very tropical.

Splashfamily,

Everything in the rooms that are in the photos are the same except the wall color. The pillows, bedspread, chairs etc are all the same. The only difference is the wall and ceiling color and texture.

You had a room with wallpaper? They took all the wallpaper out of Hawaii. We even talked with someone incharge of renovations and he told us all the rooms had it removed. Maybe they did another test in your room or yours was one of the 3 test rooms. The only other rooms with wallpaper would be in Tahiti, Tokelau and Rapa Nui. They still should look good because they were rehabbed about 2 years ago but they did not get the renovation that happened recently to the older longhouses. All the longhouse rooms that were worked on recently had the wallpaper removed and were painted as shown in the above photo.

Tikiman~ we stayed in Hawaii. Look at your two picutres the light fixutres are different too!

I just looked at the picutres again. I remember the lamp shades with the design on the bottom. Maybe the wallpaper was in the bathroom and not the main room. Who knows-- having a "senior moment"

We had a great time!

splashfamily,

Nice catch. You are right the lamp shades are different.

Yes there was still the wallpaper in the bathrooms. They did not remove the bathrooms when they gutted the rooms.

I know it is not easy to remember every detail and you should not have to. You were on vacation.

Aloha

Hey Chamonix, we're going to be at WDW at the same time! Too funny. Tikiman, this is our first trip to the Poly, we start at the WL on 10/6 for DH's birthday, CV room, then get to move to the Poly on 10/8 for MNSSHP. I spoke with a cast member today at CR, we have GV. After reading your posts and those of others I asked for Samoa, ground floor, hopefully volcano side. I want this to be a special trip for DH, this is the 3rd time we've visited the parks this year. He works hard to pay for these little jaunts, claims that he's going for our girls, 7&9, but he had never been to WDW till we married. We're definitely making up for his loss during childhood. My kids think everyone should go 3 times per year (w/o AP's:earseek: ). Do you think I stand a chance of getting a good room? I'm scared to ask for an upgrade shen I get there, don't want to appear cheap.

I am so excited to be staying again at the Poly, the last time I was there was when I was 11 years old....ummm...and that was in Nov. 1971.....I loved Tikiman's website and I think based on his info that we would like to request to stay in Tokelau..... but who do we make the request to? Do I call back and have it added to my reservation or do I ask when I check in or call the Poly direct?

I'm loving this thread. I'm very excited about our Poly stay, and the pictures of the grounds absolutely blow me away, but the room decor has always left me a little underwhelmed-- and frankly I think it's that darn mirror! It's just a bit too kitchy for me.

That bottom photo, Steve, is beautiful. The colors seem richer.

I've noticed though, that often room photos don't do the rooms justice. Don't know why. Anyway, I'm sure I'll love my room. How can I not?

Tikiman,

That's the SAME bedspread and pillows (on the bed) in both photos???

The first one looks pastel coral and almost baby blue (to me).

The second looks like a more warm shade closer to burnt orange (I know, poor description.) and brownish.

Anyhow, leaving out the walls and ceiling, which photo is more true to the colors?

We are requesting Tahiti. Right now it's GV since they didn't have AP rates for LV. We are hoping for top floor. We like further away, quieter areas and a balcony. And REALLY hoping for two sinks. Hope this is a good choice.

Thanks,

Rhonna

rhonna, that's what I was trying to say in my post up top. The botom photo is MUCH more true to the colors--new wall and ceiling painting aside. The pillows are dark brownish-orangy, not pastel at all. hhmmm. Can't think of the color--burnt sienna? umber? LOL

I do like the new wall color scheme though, it's nice.

rcraw, we'll keep an eye out for your family--my dd is 7yo and an only child so she is always looking for other kids to play with at the pool! (we might bring along a friend for her this time, not sure)

Aloha!

Great, my girls are 7 & 9. We start at WL on Wed, move to Poly on Fri. Maybe they will hook up at the volcano pool. I requested volcano pool side, ground floor in Samoa.

chamonix,

Thanks! I'll be happier if it's closer to the second photo.

I know it sounds silly to worry over things like colors but we really enjoy our resort stays almost as much as the parks and our surroundings matter to us. I guess we aren't the "it's just a place to sleep" or "we are never in our room" type people. LOL

:)

I think he said that everything in both pics were the same except for the walls and curtains. I think one pic has more of a flash then the other giving the appearance of a lighter color scheme. All I know is that in all of my stays the pillows and spreads looked like the bottom picture. I have never seen any look like the top pic. Our pillows have always been darker coral with green bedspreads. There was no blue in them at all. The bottom pic represents the bedspread and pillow color best of all.
