My travel agent said to call the Polynesian a week before arrival to arrange for specific rooms.
Is this true?
Is this the best way to handle this?
I have been told that Lagoon facing rooms are what I should want. Is this true as well. Are they hard to get?
Appreciate your input.

What you get depends on what you paid for. Lagoon facing rooms are nice, but you'd only get those if you paid for a lagoon view, or were offered a free upgrade.

Beyond that, you will not be able to request specific rooms by calling the resort directly. Your travel agent would have to have your requests noted on your reservation by Disney. It is THEIR responsibility to have that done, since they are handling your reservation.

Have a great trip! :)

When I booked this Land/Sea vacation a year ago, the price was dependant on the category cabin you got on the Disney Wonder. Category 1-3 had you going to a different level of resort at WDW, while categories 4-7 had you going to a Polynesian level resort. Now, I was able to actually pick out the cabins I got onboard, but the travel agent said that the same was not true about the Polynesian. That is when she said to "call them a week before arrival".
Here is what I now believe. I think that the land/sea rate only gets me a room, any room at the Polynesian. Clients who book the Polynesian separatley will have preference as far as room assignments. So, if lagoon view rooms are completely booked up by hotel clients, than the cruise clients can only get garden views. Then I would guess that category 4 passengers have precedence over category 5, then 6, etc. And then passengers who have made room requests have precedence over those that did not.
Therefore, I have made a request for lagoon view. The 3 day stay being at the end of April (no spring break, no summer vacation), I guess I have as good as chance as any of getting what I want (I have category 6 on the boat). But no guarantee.
I don't really like this mystery. If I could pay a few bucks more to guarantee the room assignment, I would.
So, do I have it right?
Does anyone know any other tricks I can try to perhaps tip the odds my way?

AHA! I have NO clue about how room requests work with cruise packages, so completely ignore my last post. I'm sure some kind soul who knows how the cruises work will help you.

You might also want to make a post on the Cruise Line forum. They might be able to help you even more.

Good luck! :)

Usually when you book the land sea package you are usually booked in a garden view room at any of the deluxe resorts. They also like to keep all cruise passengers together to facilitate the baggage pick-up, so usually room requests for land/sea guests are for naught. Also, SmackyStacky is correct in that requests need to be placed on your reservation and not made to the resort directly. You are incorrect on your assumptions as to room assignments at the Polynesian. There are two room categories that can be booked and paid for: Garden view and Lagoon view. Lagoon view usually costs approx $50 more per night, and is a specifically booked and guaranteed room category. With Land/Sea packages, you dont' get this option, so are booked into a garden view room. People who have first dibs at a lagoon view room, are those who booked and paid for the upgrade (not an option with land/sea), then those with room ressies or land packages directly with Disney. As I said before, land/sea falls into a different category and usually land/sea guests are kept together to ease the transition of luggage to the ship. I wouldn't expect to receive a lagoon view room if I were you, the only thing you could do is upon check-in at the Poly ask if it is possible for you to pay for the upgrade to lagoon view. I believe that is the only option, and will not be a guarantee of any means, but you're only option.

I have a land/sea package booked for July. :Pinkbounc I called DCL as I wanted to upgrade to Poly Concierge LV for the land portion. I am not concierge on the ship, just a category 6. They were able to upgrade me to LV concierge even though I am doing the land/sea package. I was not able to choose a room, but I did request 1st floor as I know my 6 yr old DD will love the convienience of opeining the door and going outside. This may be quite the challenge with my 1 yr old DD.

Also, I booked my land/sea with Disney and not a travel agent. This may also be the reason that I could upgrade.

On our land and sea we were able to request our room at the poly, we had requested a smoking room (recived it)3rd floor(recived it) and Lagoon view(not exactly but room 3145 in Tuvalu that faced the South in the SE corner we had a great view ov the Marina and could see the sun rise over the contemporary + an almost view of MK, had to go out to the stairs (about 6') ;)
so you should still try to do request we had our TA do them and we also FAX'd them to the poly the week prior, our room was even ready at 10 am!
just belive in the pixi dust:D

If you are restricted to a garden view ask to be in the FIJI longhouse with a view of the Marina. The Fiji Longhouse is all "Garden View". We booked garden view last year and I called w/this request a week prior and got it plus ground floor! Nice view of Marina and when on the portch had view of the Lagoon!
